Ok lets keep this civil and understand that everyone has an opinion.

These are the QBs in the Mack Brown Era

1. Major Applewhite
2. Chris Simms
3. Chance Mock
4. Vince Young
5. Colt McCoy

Here is how I ranked them
1.Vince - no explanation needed

2. Colt McCoy Two bowl victories broke freshmen passing records. Picked him over Chris and Major because he is not only durable but he came in as a freshmen and performed at an amazing level. He owns the mental aspect of the positions.

3 Major Applewhite - Major was a winner and though he wasn't the most talented QB in the program he was gritty. His biggest issue was his knees which is the big reason why Major is behind Colt. Major's biggest strength was the mental aspect of the position, the fact that he has moved up the assistant ranks at such a young age proves this out.

4. Chris Simms - Probably the most talented QB ever in the system, Simms has the best arm of the bunch and was incredibly durable. Simms biggest weakness was the mental part of the game a problem that seems to have followed him to the NFL.

5. Chance Mock - I wish he had more of a chance to show what he could do. It's too bad he came in right before Vince and right after Simms. If given the time I think he could be right around major and Colt.

thoughts?

1) VY - We all know why.
2) Colt and Major are tied here for me. While Major is my favorite all-time Texas QB, Colt is going to do more as far as career stats. Colt will take #2, and Applewhite #3 for me
4) Chance Mock
5) Simms

Obviously, Vince is #1 and Colt is#2. No real debate here, I wouldn't think. Mock should be last with his limited body of work. That leaves Applewhite and Simms in #3 and #4, and I'm not gonna pick one or the other so we don't have to rehash that situation. Let's say they're tied at 3.

1. VY - 'nuff said.

2. Colt - I really think he will have a GREAT year (and a better one next year).

3. Chris - Didn't play well vs ou or Colorado in the Big XII 'Ship - but he won a lot of game for us.

4. Major - I loved watching the comebacks - but he didn't win as many games as people around here think he did.... and he lost a lot more than people remember.

5. Chance - Great guy - never really had a shot.

All that said - I enjoyed (or enjoy) watching them all. I appreciate what they have done for the program.

You're forgetting Mack Brown's first starting quarterback, Richard Walton.

IMHO:
1. VY - no explanation necessary
2. Major - 3 wins over top ten teams.
3. Colt - beat OU in '06 - could rise higher.
4. Simms - poor kid. What a heartbreaker.
5. Mock - his TD to INT ratio in '03 was actually quite impressive.
6. Walton - I hope he's a better doctor than he was a QB.

7. Adam Dunn - Sure he strikes out alot, but his homers are sweet.

8. Marty Cherry - Unimpressive stats, but no question he's pulled in the hottest tail of any MB era QB.

If I remember correctly, Simms had the best receiving corps ever assembled at UT, and he still couldn’t beat a decent defense. Simms = slow release, predictable, predetermined throws, and looked down his receivers - all problems he still has in the NFL. We could never score points against top 20 teams, and our D would get tired with all the 3-and-outs and interceptions.

With Major being a coach now, I'm even more inclined to give him the #3 position over Simms. Wasn't it the BIG XII championship game (MNT birth on the line) when Simms left the game with an "injury" after throwing interception after interception and Major came in and almost won it for us?

1. Young
2. McCoy
3. Applewhite
4. Simms

1. VY (Greatest college QB ever imo)
2. Major (Could have sent us to a National Championship or major bowl game in his Senior year if it wasn't for Simms)(Also if Major starts all his years he would have held all the passing records for a long time imo)
3. Colt (time will tell, but his frosh season was crazy good)
4. Simms (Great at beating crap teams, but couldn't step up for the big ones)
5. Mock (Strong arm, but was too inconsistent)

All in all, some great college QBs indeed...

Colt McCoy still has a couple of years to beat out Chris Simms as number two. I think it is possible he can do it but even if he doesn't they are/were both excellent Quarterbacks.

I'd rank Major ahead of Colt. Major won the big games against the Nebraska powerhouses. Colt hasn't won a super huge game thus far, outside of the first OU game.

1) Vince - Nearest to Jesus ever to take snaps for Texas
2) Major - He was instrumental to taking Texas out of mediocrity in 98
3) Simms - Has set most of UT's current passing records
4) Colt - 2 bowl wins
5) Mock - Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades

Simms
Major
Colt (for now..will move up big time if he can beat Arky, Blow U and Aggy in the same year) If he stays healthy he will move up to # 2 over his career.

Simms in 2002 was very good. If that team had a running game (and didn't have 25 injuries on defense against Tech) they would have been right there for the national title.

I do think Colt will be the easy choice for "best non-VY QB" after this season though.

The real answer:

1. VY
2. Major
3. Colt
4. Simms
5. Nordgren (because of his bounce/dribble TD run a couple years ago)

Colt is really good but let's give some time before dethroning a legend. Putting him above Major is using too much short-term memory.

I call BS on Huckleberry. Freddy Torres was head and shoulders above Adair Fraggoso. Did you ever see them play? I mean get your facts straight son you are embarrassing yourself.

Tank - damn, your tag on Major is right on. been baffled for a long time how/why his legend goes one way, and Simms' goes the exact opposite direction.

Simms was a better QB than Major. Period. Colt could pass them both up this season if he keeps it up. Vince stands alone and is the ONLY (sorry, Major cultists) untouchable legend we've ever had at QB.
