Rangers pitching DL

Jon Daniels must be a genius.

Give me a scnario in which by my rankings of starters your #2 (Harrison) #4 (Feliz), #5 (Lewis), #6 (Perez) are on the DL, adding #7 (Ogando) and you are still having pretty good starting pitching almost every night.

Also, the Rangers lost to free agency top relievers Adams, Uehara and Tateyama from the bullpen and Feldman, the spot starter/long relief guy. Still, it's a pretty good bullpen. I'm not thrilled when the Rangers send Kirkman or Lowe out there, but I can remember bullpens when just about every available reliever gave me that "oh no" feeling as they trotted in from the bullpen that Worster feels about Kirkman.

Have to agree that the Rangers have a wealth of pitching developed and have needed it with so many injuries. I loved Wash's quote that they wont be looking for a pitcher at the trade deadline because they should be getting a couple of good ones back in July/August in Lewis and Harrison.

The decision not to waste money on Cliff Lee and to spend the money on Darvish is the biggest one. The Rangers dialed up a true ace in Yu and didnt overspend to get a pitcher who was on the downside of his career a mistake Hicks definitely would have made. The same thing is playing out with Hamilton while the Rangers got a better bat in Berkman for 1/4 the price and just a short term deal if he doesnt work out.

Daniels has definitely made all the right moves these past few years.

your right Crockett - genius. If you told me we would have 2 starting pitchers on the DL most of the start of the season and now another one making a total of 3 starting pitchers (Ogando) and the R's with the best record in baseball and solidly in 1st place in their division I would have told you that your crazy.

I absolutely dread Kirkman coming in... I always think: how much lead do we have at that point in the game and how much can we afford for Kirkman to give away before Ross, Scheppers, Nathan or someone else comes in to stop the bleeding and the R's still win. The ONLY good thing about him coming in a game, is that I know he probably won't relief pitch the next game

Ok, I've seen enough of Kerosene Kirkman. His outing tonight against the BoSox in the bottom of the 9th: 3 batters faced, 6 pitches thrown (4 on an intentional walk), 3 runs allowed, ERA now over 8. Rangers lose as his last pitch produced an Ortiz 3-run HR.

Get well soon Matt, Colby, Neftali, etc...

The Rangers are out of options on Kirkman and see some potential. They don't want to lose him through waivers by sending him down. But damn, it's tough when you gotta use a pitcher and he's what you have left.

i've seen pitchers who were bad early in their careers put it together, Jeff Russell, Jamie Moyer, but I don't know how you build confidence and excellence when the guy gets shelled on just about every trip to the mound.
