Mrs. HHD and I are off to The Ballpark for the game. Looks like Matt Harrison on the mound tonight - hoping for a better performance than the debacle yesterday. Dodgers and Angels are tied 2-2 in the 5th inning - a win by the Dodgers and a win by the Rangers would be a very nice outcome today.
You folks cheer hard - I'll do my part at The Ballpark.
85. HHD, hope you stuck it out to the end so I can give you credit. For once Nathan was shaky. And now we see if using him in non-save hurts R's vs DET. This sets up Wash for huge 2nd-guess.
I did indeed stick it out until the last out was recorded - but it was far too exciting in the ninth inning. Not like Nathan to labor like that - raises a question concerning his availability for tomorrow if he's needed for a save.
Harrison with win number 10, who knew that he and Darvish would be the rocks of this rotation. I agree on Nathan, I understand he didnt throw yesterday but give him so pen work dont run him out there unless have to with the Tigers on tap beginning tomorrow.
HHD got it done on a very "warm" night vs. CO... but you let Nathan make it just a little too close there in the bottom of the 9th for my taste. Hope we don't need him tonight vs. tiggers... get that arm rested. Dodgers didn't help the R's on Sunday but the Good Guys still have a 5 game lead. Anxious to see Roy O game #2. Pleased R's won't see Verlander in this series.
Maybe Holland will get back in the rotation next week? Feliz is just starting to throw a few short pitches? He may not be rotation ready until August!?
Let's cut Grimm a little slack. Going from your first year in AA directly to the majors is asking a lot. He had one excellent outing and showed his potential. Now he needs to go back to Frisco and continue to develop.
Yeah, I am disappointed for Grimm and agree we need to cut him some slack. He didn't have his best stuff last night and the tiggers are a better batting team than Houston was, when he last pitched.
Does Mike Adams make anyone else nervous when he pitches? Geesh I don't trust the guy - most of the time he seems to get out of trouble, but he is too frequently in jams for me. Give me Ross in the 7th and or 8th!
If we can keep winning with Yu, Harrison and Oswalt until the All Star Break - we should have Holland back and maybe Ogando and Colby or at least close to back after the break. I fear Feldman back in the rotation but hell, it might motivate him to pitch better to get a shot again... we will probably see Perez in the rotation vs. A's later this week?
Horn2Run if the pitchers were being over used I would agree with you. Of the lot only Lewis could approach to have been over used early in the season.
Fleliz does not have the body, mindset (he cannot shake the 9th inning of Game 6) or pitches to be an effective starting pitcher over any period of time. If Holland cannot eat innings he should not be on the staff as every time he rolls out it is a 50/50 chance of which Holland will be taking the mound. Ogando petered out late last season and has not shown consistency as a reliever this season.
The pitching future for the remainder of this season seems to be Lewis, Darvish, Harrison a plug in backed by Ross, Adams and Nathan.
"Fleliz does not have the body, mindset (he cannot shake the 9th inning of Game 6) or pitches to be an effective starting pitcher "
This.
Viper - I have thought this for some time although some disagree with me. You mentioned what we have left in the rotation we can count on but you left Oswalt off the list - not sure if that was intentional or not.
WorsterMan, it was an oversight. However his value should be the lessons Darvish, Ross and any other rookie can learn from being around him. Unfortunately while Roy wilted in the heat last night, the wilting was slower than the Tiger pitcher.
Well R's got the W: 13 - two TD's and a PAT to 9 for tiggers - 3 FG's....
Oswalt got it done but it was not pretty and Adams & Perez put us at great risk several times. Thankfully our bats and especially Murphy came through with a big night... I like that kid - he frequently seems to come up with a key hit, a steal or big bat when we've needed it the last 3 years... even if he is from that swamp they call Houston
I am hoping Feldman's one game winning streak as a starter will grow to 2 tonight. I forgot the A's pitcher name, but he had a horrible record and ERA... 4 games @ home with the A's coming up - NO excuse to not to get some payback against these guys.
