Rangers Elvis - Long-term Deal

Sounds like great news for the Rangers, as they are near a long-term deal with Elvis Andrus - 8 years, $120M. The Link

If this comes to pass, Jurickson Profar doesn't have an opening to grow into with the Rangers. Will Miami make Giancarlo Stanton available via trade? He could sure add some pop to the line-up, and would be especially attractive if the Rangers decide to let Nelson Cruz go as a Free Agent after this season. And Miami would probably jump at a deal to get Profar.

What do you think, fellow Ranger zealots?

I think this opens up the door for Kinsler to be traded personally. I'd love to see Stanton as a Ranger but I *hope* we have a shot without including Profar.

I grew up a middle infielder turned into corner infielder so I'm biased toward a Profar / Andrus middle infield pairing. But, I will say that I'm not completely sold on Andrus and an 8 yr extension...seems excessive. I'll be looking for the 'outs' in the contract to see where there may be some relief in the event he doesn't perform over the course of that contract.

Would love to find a way to keep Profar. I expect the Rangers to take a step back this year so build for the future. A long term deal for Andrus is one step but finding a way to have him and Profar would really set up another run in the years to come.

^It would be very nice to keep Profar, but where would he play? The natural positions for him are 2B and SS. The Rangers are committing long-term to Elvis, and Kinsler is in the first year of a five-year club-friendly contract. If they could trade Kinsler and put Profar at 2B, that would be great, but I'm not seeing what trade value Kinsler would have. And for sure Profar has a lot of trade value - we just want to be sure we get top-drawer talent in return (such as Stanton or David Price).

Further thoughts?

LOVE the Elvis deal. Long term, I would love to see him and Profar solidifying the middle infield spots for the next decade. A Kinsler trade would be ideal but no one is going to take him unless the Rangers eat a ton of his bad contract (especially if they watched the game last night--he was brutal). I would guess Kinsler will eventually be force-moved to LF or 1B depending on how Murphy and Moreland progress. The Rangers aren't trading Profar unless its for super plus pitching with more than a half season of team control.

Hey HHD - when I first saw the title to your thread I thought for a moment you meant the Rangers & The King have a long-term deal

Seriously, I am glad they have Andrus locked up. The kid is a warrior and one of our best.

I'm a big fan of Andrus and the deal that was signed. Gives a lot of options going fwd, tradewise

The options of the contract are favorable to the club as well....they can have Elvis for 6 yrs at 11mm per basically from what I read last night - then the options kick in
