Is going to be shattered this year. They are already at just under 2.9 million fans attending a home game on the season averaging over 42k a game. With 13 games left at that pace they will easily top 3.4 million.

They have never been over 3 million in their history.

...and they needed those 500,000 more fans, because salaries are going up, up, and away.

Btw, did MLB take Nolan's advice and try to schedule more home games for the Rangers earlier in the season, before the August heat hits? He said last year the team would have easily drawn 3 mil were it not for the heat.

Sept will be interesting.....I'm thinking attendance won't back much if at all.....football has killed the gate here in the past, I think R's fever is here to stay

at least i hope so...

we locals haven't seen it like this before...only thing that comes close was the Mavs in the late 80s when Landry didn't have a handle on things and were going 3-13....Mavs were super popular when they played the LALakers close in 87 or 88....then Tarpley snorted that chance away

This team tho, looks like they're challenging the Pokes for popularity

I remember in the old stadium, a local grocery chain, would give out free bleacher tickets. There has always been support for the team, it's just the product hasn't been that great until now really that drew in more of the fair weather fans.

Sidenote: When Nolan pitched his 7th no-hitter, I was in the stands and the place was PACKED, because of the free bleacher seats, made that whole game crazy.

I remember those days well Rayug. During the Rangers' lean years in the '70s, I used to don my Junior Texas Rangers garb, grab my notebook full of score sheets and an ice chest full of hot dogs, and camp out in the outfield bleachers for many a game. Some nights, my family and friends were about the folks out there; other nights (usually during special promotions or when the Yankees came to town), it was a bit crowded.

One of the most underrated, yet still one of my favorite promotions, was "Farm and Ranch" night, which was usually scheduled in conjunction with a double-header. Always got a kick out of seeing opposing ball players go at it doing the egg toss, milking cows, and other such events.

Of course, things really starting getting crazy when Nolan arrived. In addition to the no-hitters, his 5000 K was a very memorable moment for me--not just because of the feat, but because of the overflow crowd that joined me in celebrating that moment. Never will forget the way the outfield stands shook when he struck out Ricky Henderson for No. 5000.

Good times all around.

Given that history, it sure is cool to see the Rangers setting attendance records like they are now. We need to enjoy the ride--and hope it's a long one.

Well, I think I have the ticket stub in my baseball stuff.

I actually attended that game while on leave from the Army after I just got out of the desert from Desert Storm. I had a lot of money from not spending it during those 7-8 months and went to a lot of baseball games. Haha

On a side note to the main topic -

How many of you folks remember Bat Night at the old stadium? With the steel planking, the bats banging on the planking in the eighth inning during a rally by the Rangers could set up a sound level that the new Ballpark - for all its beauty and charm - cannot match.

^^^^ I remember it well. It seems like those nights always sold out before we could get our tickets. The one time we got in I received a bat with Bert Campaneris' signature stamped on it. I had that bat for a long time and then lost track of it. I never could figure out what happened to it-- I think my mom gave it away once we stopped using wooden bats playing organized ball.

This is the first season in years -- years -- that my husband and I didn't attend a single game.

^^^With 5 games left on the homestand, there's still time to catch one. I bet they'd let you bring ol' Salem along if it'd help 'em clinch.

I went to my first Ranger Game in 1974 as a kid. This is the one I always remember.
Ryan vs Clemens

Nolan struck out Jim Rice to end the Top of the 8th with a pitch that approached 100 mph. Palmeiro then hit a 2 run homer down the right field line off Clemons to win it.

Back when I had friends that were fun to go to Rangers games with I never had to plan ahead to get tickets. Different situation now.

I remember those Bat Nights. The R's ran out of bats by 1hr before 1rst pitch. And whoever was the PA guy before Chuck would say "ok kids, for a photo please raise your bats V-E-R-Y S-L-O-W-LY...."And it looked cool as heck.

Also remember those 10cent beer nights and the trouble it caused vs CLE, then they reciprocated with a 10cent beer nite of their own vs us.

Talking about "everyone was there". I must have run into 100,000 that said they were there for David Clyde's debut vs MINN. What a game that was.

Man, a lot of menories going to those games while I was in HS (72-74)...... Frank Howard acknowledging our calls to him ("hello, men" > hey...he called US men!) tossing a ball to us in BP in the LF bleachers. You would have thought 8 piranhas were eating a baseball, we went after it so hard. .....Willie Davis sitting onhis duff in CF when Umbarger wouldn't throw at an opposing hitter / retaliation........the 7-8 of us laughing during BP vs the Bosox when Roger Moret was a Sox, we had the "pink thing " stix, and looked down and said hey Moret, want an elephant? He looks up at us and said "**** you" as if talking to thin air (yrs later he went zombie in the Ranger clubhouse..........Billy Martin going nuts on umps......Burroughs was scorching hot in 74, 75 before cooling off.....Phone Call Foucalt....."Roy Smalley, the next Luis Aparichio."

Fun days.

ah...and maybe the most classless act out there. Before a game vs NYY in April '78, Munson was stretching in the OF during BP. At this time he and Reggie were in a media war of sorts (who was better....more valuable....the leader?)....

so in front of what was a 3/4 full bleacher 40 minutes to game time, someone yells at Munson "Hey Thurman. When are they gonna name a candy bar after you?"....Munson looked up in our direction, grabbed his crotch and said "I gotcher candy bar right here".

To which most grown men and kids inthe stands held up their thumb and forefingers one inch apart and chanted "Thurm! Thurm! Thurm"!

LMAO, but it was a classless thing for a ballplayer to say in front of kids.

'Dallas always liked basebal, but didn't like us back'....great line! And true.

as a kid I remember going to Burnett Field, saw Tony Olivia, Jim Fregosi.....but don't remember many others that played in MLB except half of the SF Giants of the mid 60s played for Tacoma or somesuch team.....They crushed the (Dallas) Rangers.

Most of all I remember the mosquitos down there.

One other Arlington Stadium memory......whenever it rained, the footing in the bleachers was treacherous for older folks, but lot of fun for teenagers. We'd take running starts and slide on that wet stuff. Crowds were so small, esp when it rained, you could do that and no one would say anything.

I almost miss that old place.

I was on my way to the Kenny Rogers game that turned out to be his perfect game, when me and my brother were like let's grab a bite to eat and watch it at home. /sigh

In high school, Rangers games were an awesome place to go get beer...we would just pass the money down the line in the bleachers and a beer came back. Plus there were probably 1 or 2 fights a night in the stands we got to watch..man that was great.
