Random Season News

Uh, the way I read that a bounce high enough can be subject to fair catch. Rule said could hit the ground. Said nothing about only hitting once.

That's news to me. Rule has always been once ball hits ground on a kickoff, it is a free ball. Did they also do away with the free kick after a fair catch?

I was shocked too, had to read again to make sure of what it said. In watching the game (play) in question I was not certain that kick didn’t take a quick hop. Do you know for certain it was a blooper, short, in the air kick? I wasn’t sure after watching it a few times.

I have no idea. besides being amazed at the asskicking, I was stunned that Anderson's crew did such a decent job. (I did not say "good", but for that crew, the job was exceptional. Yess, they are that bad.)

Wasn’t the kick basically a pooch kick versus a traditional three bounce? I’ve wondered why teams don’t try to line drive a missile at the area where the receiving team is bunched up hoping it bounces off a player.

Moon’s link to the wording of the rule clearly states that the ball can bounce and does not effect the availability of a fair catch.

It does say once.

According to the NCAA rule book, “a fair catch of a free kick is a catch by a Team B player who has made a valid signal during an untouched free kick.” Additionally, the rule book states that “during a free kick, a player of the receiving team in position to receive the ball has the same kick-catch and fair-catch protection whether the ball is kicked directly off the tee or is immediately driven to the ground, strikes the ground once and goes into the air in the manner of the ball kicked directly off the tee.”

Ahhhh, once it is. Almost makes sense like that but now who decides was high enough for legitimate fair catch. I suspect that as the article states, this may lead to several times being called on the standard one bounce ‘on sides’ kick.
Although it really hasn’t been that frequent imo.

We had a kicker years ago that kicked a linedrive that bounced off the frontline blocker and bounced back to our coverage team. Can't remember who that was.

Read past the once off the ground and it says goes into the air in a manner as kicked off the tee. That reads like it bounces off the turf high enough to field a fair catch.

Neat facility
How many are on the Rowing team?
Not sure, looks like quit a bit. LHN did a piece on Texas rowing a couple of year ago showing rowers walking around campus asking people who looked athletic to join. Not sure how many schollies they offer. It was pretty cool. Great program, too :hookem:

Fox = ESPN = Crap reporting and a no better presentation.

No doubt Fox is looking at losses from its Big XII contracts after Texas and ou depart. Can not blame them for using their influence to try to keep Texas and ou for as long as they can.
