Punches Flying

And i thought our line shooting was bad. You put some Nova punching into the mix and we're talking -30%....

At the end of the game, we were standing up singing the eyes and some Nova fan came along and threw a bottle of beer at us. We retaliated with words. He retaliated with punches. Security claims he was detained but I highly doubt that.

Nova fans are rough yall....

Hook em!

I personally witnessed two fights, seemed to overhear another across the arena, and did my best to avoid being drawn into fights with two separate Villanova fans (I was wearing prominent UT gear so they were drawn my way). Had some New York dudes tell me "**** Nova" really emphatically and tell me they hated those people and would have my back if something went down. Crazy atmosphere.

the nova fans were aggressive before the game.

I saw a couple fights on the other side of the garden. Then a wrestling match started on the concourse behind me. One guys head hit the floor really really hard. I don't think any were wearing Texas stuff. Seemed like a lot of non-nova/Texas kids were there too

It was a late start with a lot of booze. I was pretty nervous leaving the garden.

According to the Nova rivals board the Texas fans started all the fights and were all kicked out of the Garden.

I was at the game last night. That horns fan with beer all down his back may have been me. There was a group of Jersey guys behind us. I mean, they fit every stereotype imaginable. But they put $250 down on Texas and hated Nova (as they hate all things Philly) so they whole game they were screaming f philly, etc. They started a fight when they called a guy with a nova cap on a fat f***. So maybe the Nova fans were correct in saying that some of the fights were started by "Texas fans".

But it wasn't the real Texas fans. They were just people from the area who happen to hate Nova.

But they had it coming. In the section around me, when it became clear that Texas was the better team and would probably win, the Nova fans started a Boomer Sooner chant.

It was so hard not to fly into an alcohol fueled rage. All I could do was smile through my teeth and act liked they'd said something clever.

Ugh.

I am sure all the people from Philly were totally innocent. People from Philly have always had a reputation for being courteous and pleasant during sporting events. After all its not like they have jails in their sporting arenas or anything.

I'm pretty sure that when a baby is born in Philly the nursing staff takes turns sucker-punching the newborns.

I know Philly fans have a reputation for less than stellar behavior, but I am still a little surprised by these reports after my experiences with the 'Nova fans who came to Austin when the Horns and Cats played in '05-'06. They were all very friendly both before and after the game. I suspect the difference is only the diehard fans, who probably attended 'Nova and have a lot of pride in their program, made the trip to Austin.

I was at the game last night. Guys- stop saying "F East Coast"- sounds classless.

As a native Texan living in NYC I've seen just as many fights in stands in Texas as I have here.

But last night was a big one- I personally saw the Nova fans, and perhaps the NJ gamblers mentioned start fights. The Nova guys tossed beer on a group of middle aged Texas fans- then one of them turned around, grabbed a shirt, and yanked the Nova guy down 2 or 3 rows. People came out of everywhere throwing fists.

The MSG staff was quick to respond and yanked out at least 8 different people in the 2 different fights. One Nova fan wearing a suit, coming straight from work, was just an absolute tool and was talking trash to a group of us Texas fans. After awhile of his "toolness" an MSG staffmember just escorted him out of the building.

Save for a few shirts with beer on them I'd say we won decisively on the court and on the escorted out of the Garden scoreboard.

i love how fans of basketball schools start taking trash about football. i was a the duke/texas a game a few years ago up there, nj or philly. after we went down big, they started chanting USC (just before the MNC game).

From listening to people who went to the game, it sounds like the Nova fans outnumbered Texas fans 10 to 1. I guess that is partly because Nova is only 100 miles away. My question to the Nova fans is this...

If Texas fans were really outnumbered, do you really think it was in our best interest to start that many fights?

We have our share of jerks... but come on. It sounds like the Nova fans and natives were the most responsible.

I was at the game in a box with 10 Texas fans and 10 nova fans. It was great, except for the game was too late. We drank all of the beer in our fridge and had to order more. We had a box next to us with 2 Texas fans (hot blonds) and 20 nova fans. We were slapping hands around the glass after the big dunks. It was a great night.

As for fighting, its incredible that Texans would say that folks from philly or nyc cause more fights. Both places are pretty bad. But as far as this game, the culprits were not Texans, it was some kind of bizarre border war between NJ/NY and PA. I think its a Giants/Eagles thing. The guy who caused it all was from NY (which has already been pointed out, but we heard it from another source today)

I am a Texan (and double degree UT grad) living in NYC for 14 years. I hate to see the postings that NY sucks, particularly from people that have never been here. Texas may be the greatest state, but I have to tell you, that NYC is a great great city. And anyone that does not spend some serious time here is a country bumpkin. And everyone in NYC loves Austin...everyone.

Everyone that thinks its terrible should come, stay at the hotel Gaansevort or Soho Grand, hang out for a few days next fall, come to a NY Texas ex event for a football game watching party, and then post here that you didn't like it (I bet you won't).

And no, I have not turned my back on Texas, I made the OU, BU, Ark and A&M games, and I have a family of 4, so it isn't easy.
