Preston Hoffart suspended...

I am not ready to say the sky is falling but between Witt's injury, Todd's separated shoulder, a couple of understandable but frustrating losses (that are in March so hey that happens), and now this, it hasn't been a good six days. Kid made a dumb decision, kids do, punish him, get him back in the fold and move on. If this is the lowest six days of the season Texas is still really well situated for a big run.

I know college students do dumb things, but this takes the cake. It looks like he kneels down behind the wall so he can't be seen when he takes the drink, but he has to see that someone is recording with a phone. Was the game over? There are no players in the outfield. Is the Texas State visitor bullpen situated so just anyone can walk up to them? My first thought was possibly a fraternity stunt. Anyway, this is all over social media and he's no longer on the roster on the website. This bad decision will cost him being a part of a very enjoyable (we hope) baseball season. Thursday was definitely not a good day for Longhorn baseball news.

Some people are alkees and can't get away from it without professional help. That video certainly indicates he falls into that category.

In the old days, he'd be riding the pine a long time (which he is anyway), and running a whole lot of laps and bleachers. You know, that position coach or trainer who doesn't really do much gets some one-on-one time with him for some intensive workouts to teach him a lesson. I hope we don't permanently boot him from the team over one stupid mistake. I see a (painful) learning opportunity.

Now all we need is an assistant coach, a stripper, and a monkey...

:beertoast:

(or an All-American out at night running a "naked reverse" through an Austin woman's yard--with whom he may, or may not, have been caught in the act by her husband or boyfriend)

I don't know much about Mr. Hoffart, but I hope that UT can give him some help. Cutting him loose now will not help him. If he needs help, do it, even if he does not play baseball again. Texas has the resources to help him but, if true, he has to make the commitment.

Some of us spent a semester or so in Washington County.

While I did not, I remember when Blinn was a farm team for the Yankees. Give the parents, $10,000-25,000, pay for expenses, and his contract will be waiting when we have room for him in two years.

How would you compare the baseball of Blinn JC vs San Jac JC—back in those days…?

Back then, San Jac didn't have a team; may not have been a school; certainly not a north campus. I only knew about it because some neighborhood guys got placed at Blinn and/or Sam by the Yankees, and their parents got "a lot of money".

In a 2 year period, our neighbor placed at Blinn, and pitchers from Vidor & Orange went to Sam. Previously, a neighbor was placed at Sam.

I always wondered who paid for the surgery most of those kids had. One pitcher, who went to Blinn, got money from the Astros and they paid for his shoulder repair.

Track guys lived with the baseball guys the semester I was there. Football and basketball lived across campus.

We won the intramural football championship because the basketball guys could not keep up with me nor get to either of the QB's who were pitchers on the baseball team.
