Premature birth

Here's exerpts from e-mail I got from a friend. Her brother just had a son born prematurely and the baby is not doing well

"My nephew isn't doing very good....Last week he was stable, then on Sunday they had to do heart surgery. Every premi-baby is born with an extra vessel in their heart, it had closed like it's supposed to, but it opened back up and leaked blood into his lungs. It took awhile or them to figure out that was the problem. And by the time they figured it out his lungs were almost completely full of blood. They did surgery and he made it, they got most of the blood out. He was doing really good after the surgery. "

"[But now] he has a hole in his lungs. And they can't go in and patch up his lungs, they have to wait and let them heal themselves. And time just isn't something he has right now. Every minute they can't do anything the worse he gets. They don't think he's going to make it much longer. And after seeing him and meeting him, i'm not handleing it very well. And my brother is really not handleing it well. please pray hard for all of us."

Thanks in advance everyone...

My nephew was born premature and it was sobering visting him and the other children in that area of the hospital. He is doing great now and you'd never know he was born so early. Better yet, since he's been born UT football is undefeated over the 2 seasons he's been with us. He is the most animated and wonderful child and I pray your friend's nephew will make it through and turn out exactly the same.

I remember this day with my daughter like it was yesterday. A routine checkup at 8 months turned into a c-section and a new 3 lb daughter. Everything turned out okay as I hope it does for this young boy.

I will keep this little tyke and his family in my prayers. I can't imagine the burden that family is carrying right now.

Here's hoping the little guy's lungs mend and that he soon becomes a "feed and grow" baby, and from there to a sturdy and beautiful child.

Many many Prayers.

A friend of mine had twins at 28 weeks, the boy died a few days later, the girl after surgery and having to be in Austin for a long time is now home and doing well.

It was very scary but prayers are very powerful.

There's a documentary that's been playing on Showtime about premature birth. It's called "Little man". It talks a lot about what it's like to have a child in the NICU.

Prayers for your friend.

I'm so sorry to hear of your friend's loss. I will keep all, especially the little fellow's parents, in my prayers.
