Looks like KU’s Maui Ahuna will take his 0.400 batting average to Tennessee, a team that failed to make the CWS.

Portal is high risk high reward and aggy played it great this year but that is no guarantee of future success. Texas didnt do half bad the last two years with Antico and Messenger through the portal. That said looking to fill more than one or two pieces a season with the portal is not a sustainable strategy long term.

I say we grab an infielder (3rd baseman preferred), an outfielder or two, and 2-3 pitchers. Of course, if Paul Skenes or that guy from NC State want to come here, they’d obviously be welcome.

People have their own philosophies, but I prefer the guys with the really high batting averages—even over power, fielding, and speed. Others may feel otherwise.

For college pitchers (and pitchers at all levels of baseball below the MLB) I personally prefer the smart, good control guys who can paint the corners consistently and can work in a well disguised changeup—even over the 95+ mph heat throwers, or the wicked-drop slider/curveball guys. Give me a staff full of Lucas Gordons. We won’t shut people out, but teams may only average around 3 runs per game against us and we’d have the lowest team ERA in the league. For the college game—give me Tom Glavine over Randy Johnson. (Some knowledgeable people will tell me to put down the crack pipe, but many others, equally knowledgeable, will agree).

As reported in an independent thread, Aaron Nixon has entered the portal. Hope he lands somewhere good that we don’t play. Best of luck to him.

I agree about the hitters. But I want guys who can flat play without mistakes with a plus arm. Defense and pitching is most important in my book, hitting is last. pitchers I just want control. I don’t care if he can throw 99 or barely touch 88, he just needs to be able to control his pitches and have at least 2-3 pitches, that’s all a pitcher needs really all the way through the mlb oh and be pretty smart, him and the catcher need to keep up with what they’ve pitched and what has worked on each batter (or hasn’t worked.)

give me great pitching and zero errors from the defense and I’ll be in every game we play no matter how strong the opponent offense is. :hookem: I can’t handle mistakes in the field. That’s little league stuff.

Is Morehouse staying ?

Why are people asking about Morehouse? Did you see anything that led you to believe he might transfer? Or do you think the MLB will draft him high enough and offer him enough $$$$ to make him jump? Next year, Morehouse will be the mid-week starter at a minimum, maybe he’ll be a weekend starter.

I heard this morning on The Horn that Aaron Nixon has or is going to enter the xfer portal. This gives me a sad.

Seems like he would wait until the new pitching coach is announced. That could help him tremendously.
Entering the portal =/= actually transferring out. Some guys test the water and decide not to jump in. Others are practically pushed off the diving board by the coaches and have no other choice.

I have no idea which situation Nixon finds himself in, but I would like to think he has the option to remain at Texas if he likes the new Texas pitching coach more than any other alternative.

I haven't heard that Nixon's announced he's going anywhere else, so he can pull his name out of the portal if he likes. Correct? That said, sometimes you just need a change of scenery. Somewhere he doesn't have flashbacks of the Tech game.

Sangre, does "=/=" mean "may or may not be"? Or did you mean to use "does not equal" which is "<>"? I'm looking to learn something new here.

WV Catcher/DH McGwire Holbrook—All Big 12 2nd team—has entered the portal.

He batted 0.327 for the year with 6 Homers and plenty of RBIs.

We should give him a hard look. All Big 12 2nd team…

Christian Little has entered the transfer portal
Vanderbilt
Sophomore
Relief Pitcher
6’4”
3.72 ERA
46 strikeouts in 38.2 innings
3 saves
1 win
Will be heavily pursued

Skenes should be a target. He and the whole Air Force team left Austin with an enormous amount of goodwill towards UT, our program, and our team.

Stewart entered the portal today along with McKinney. Stewart was a pretty highly rated recruit if I recall. Lots of departures so far (including guys going pro or out of eligibility) and no additions that I've seen.
