Good analysis, but remember that the $EC allocates the bowls; not the schools. Unless the $EC has a real epiphany, there is no way they will let the any of their schools (even a 8-4 aggy team) play a 6-6/7-5 Big XII school for fear of losing.

Well, they have two tie-ins with the Big 12. Liberty and Texas Bowls. Citrus gets to pick before the SEC moves on to the remaining games, and I bet Citrus will take Auburn (assuming they lose this weekend).

The conference selects their "Pool of 6" matchups for the Outback, TaxSlayer (Gator), Music City, Texas, Belk, and Liberty Bowls. If they still have eligible teams after that, then it's Birmingham and Independence. Here's the pool of teams that'll probably be vying for it and their likely records:

South Carolina (8-4)
Kentucky (7-5)
Mizzou (7-5)
LSU (9-3)
Miss State (9-3)
A&M (7-5)

So in this scenario, they wouldn't even get to use their "extra" two games. They wouldn't have a choice but to throw one of them into the Texas Bowl. My guesses...

LSU - Outback
Miss State - Gator
Kentucky - Music City
South Carolina - Belk

After those, it's Mizzou vs. A&M for the Texas and Liberty. I HIGHLY doubt they send Mizzou to Texas.

There is one scenario that could keep A&M out of the Texas Bowl in that Ole Miss can upset Miss State. In that case, I think they might consider throwing A&M in the Independence.

The Texas Bowl needs butts in seats, which means they need one of these teams - Texas, A&M, LSU, oSu. Without one of those, they can play the game at Tully Stadium. SEC ain't traveling to Houston to watch two also rans.

I'm a 2%er ... yay! LOL

I have no idea. It's not the NC game, so it really doesn't matter. I like conference championships and national championships ... the bowl games are exhibition at best.

I’ve been a TX fan for only the past three years - stopped watching NFL games and daughter enrolled three years ago. I can’t wait to see a bowl game with TX and I don’t care when or where.

OB compiled a list of some of the possibles

USA Today – Texas Bowl vs. Texas A&M
Sporting News – Liberty Bowl vs. South Carolina
ESPN (David Hale) – Texas Bowl vs. Texas A&M
ESPN (Kyle Bonagura) – Alamo Bowl vs. Washington State
Sports Illustrated – Texas Bowl vs. Texas A&M
SB Nation – Houston Bowl vs. LSU
Jerry Palm – Liberty Bowl vs. Kentucky
Athlon – Camping World Bowl vs. North Carolina State

Was just about to repost that, Joe.

I think Alamo is kind of a stretch. There are a handful of teams that have more of a claim to their 1st pick, with OK State leading that charge.

I also don't see us playing Kentucky in anything... regionally it just doesn't make sense.

Camping World is kind of fascinating. They really don't like us in Florida. I could see them taking pretty much everyone else in the conference before Texas. I think it'll end up being Texas Bowl but probably not A&M for reasons that both the admin and other posters have mentioned... SEC will do whatever it takes to make sure they got the "right" schools in their conference and losing to Texas will disprove that. So they'll throw anyone else in there, preferably a team better than us.

None of the above! We’ll get embarrassed and end up 6-7. Oh wow! Same as Charlie Strong his first year...imagine that. Might have more than 59 yards of total offense though. Decline a bowl and stay at 6-6. I feel bad for the players, but why embarrass them and the University further

If not for the seniors, I would be inclined to refuse any potential invites...but at least the crappy crap crap bowls don't draw much of a television audience to see the monkey poo-flinging show that Beck and Co will conjure up on offense...

At this point, I don't think I'll be watching. Sad to say that. I may change my mind by gametime. But last night was another gut punch, administered by stubborn, brain dead coaching choices, and unexplainable errors by the QB. Its really hard to take.

Oh wow! Same as Charlie Strong his first year

... and I don't think the argument can be rationally made that the "cupboard" was as bare for TH as it was for CS ... particularly when part of the problem was the lacking mental toughness which warranted all those dismissals in Strong's first year.

I've said this before ... will say it again ... I don't beg for a pom pom shaker ... but neither of the two successors to Mack have had any PR skills, and Herman, watching the "Rewind" and post game pressers actually seems to demonstrate an elementary level understanding of the game sometimes. (3.8 yards/carry is my fav example)

Is this some sort of tactic? Don't divulge what we know/trying to do ... like it's fleet operations in defense of the nation? This isn't "Top Secret-No Foreign" classified stuff ... it's a goofy game that people like Herman, Saban, Myers, et al get paid an INSANE amount of money to do. I contribute to it, you (reader) contribute to it.

But mercy.

I'll note this is probably one of the best .500 teams in the nation and, at risk of sounding aggy-like (sometimes even they have a point every 25 years/so) ... we're a handful of plays (called and executed) from being 9-3.

But like our true frosh QB ... repeated mistakes cannot be tolerated. The problem is one of philosophy about the game and the players do not have flags belted to their waists.

Same song, same verse, same rhythm. different chord ... and it's a minor chord at that! :P

I didn't vote because the National Championship game was not listed. I want to forego a worthless bowl that will cost the school money and add meaningless practices in favor of taking the team to watch how the big boys do it and hopefully aspire to get there.

:hookem2:

Coaches often tout bowl practices as very valuable springboard into the next season.

I have always been in favor of that, but this group is so far from meaningful improvement that after 4 weeks in the spring, 3 weeks in August, and 13 weeks of season, we still

have 2 QBs that can't read a defense and make stupid mistakes. Don't tell me they are young, look what Hurts did as a true freshman.

RBs that can't be trusted to get 2 yards on the goalline and can never push the pile - spare me the Warren lovefest

WRs that do not communicate with the QB, never find the hole in the zone, can't block, can't read the defense

DBs that can't knock a WR off at the LOS, don't communicate with each other

LBs who get lost on most plays, take the wrong angles, and look like the champions of the Dat Nguyen "I'm gonna guess again" sweepstakes.

I lay all of this at the feet of the coaching staff, that has not found a way to fix it 20 weeks. Do I want them fired? NO, but I expect and demand better. So what is this coaching staff going to miraculously do in three more weeks?

I assume we won't find out until after all the CCGs are done?

Don't tell me they are young, look what Hurts did as a true freshman.

He looked like a decent QB who routinely had all day to throw and was facing defenses that were reeling from a pretty good rushing attack as well.

Just finished looking at five or six different pages with bowl projections...there is absolutely zero consensus either on where Texas goes OR who the opponent might be. Two had Texas going to the Texas bowl but with different opponents...

The only game that seemed like it OUGHT to be a sure win was the projection for the Zaxby's bowl in Dallas against North Texas. And that is not a game that exactly conjures up a desire to overspend for a trip to Dallas...

Unfortunately not a good choice for Texas as the UNT offense is the type of offense that Texas has not figured out (see ou, TCU and TT). Best choice for Texas is still the Cactus Bowl v. a lower PAC-12 team.

True, but I also saw a true freshman being coached up and who could read a defense. Neither did I see him making ridiculous across the body throws back to the middle of the field. Again, I don't blame the kids, I blame a lack of coaching. And no, I don't want anyone fired, but rather want them to earn their money by doing their job.

It has fully sunk in for me after my post game fury Friday night... the Horns are now sitting with a dreadful 6-6 record.

While reading these posts after that Tech meltdown / debacle, I'm saddened by another missed win opportunity and the projections for a bottom tier bowl.... furthermore the potential for a loss and finishing 6-7 :puke:

I have not posted since that TTU debacle. I am starting to doubt TB. Way behind most of you. We MUST run the ball. Right now our best option is behind Conner Williams. TB did NOT game plan for running behind Conner Williams near enough. However, if he and TH are serious about the promised physical style of play they will do that more in the bowl game and we will be 7-6. The Cactus Bowl or the Texas Bowl are my projections. If we actually play physical we can win, TH has to direct TB what to do. That is his job. We playcalled ourselves out of the TTU game on Friday. Many ex players tweeted this on Friday. TB overthinks the offense, he calls it pressing. We need a basic plan that keys on the run game. We CAN run the ball with Young and Carter. We would have won like 30-20 had we called 42-45 runs instead of 32-33 runs during the game. 3rd and 2 in the red zone should be a run, not an across the body floater over the middle which almost ended up a pick 6. We had a 70% to 75% chance of picking up a 1st down with a run behind CW on that play. Had we picked up that 1st down. Our chances of winning were at least 85% at that point in the game. There was only 2 minutes left.
