Jumping ahead because it’s fun to think about ...
If we get to the title game on January 8 in Houston, who would you prefer to play?

I pick Michigan for a couple of reasons.
  1. Texas and Michigan are two great traditional college football powers, public universities with good academics, and two of the most recognizable and awesome uniforms ever
  2. If we won this title matchup we will have beaten all of this year’s playoff teams

:um: :bama: :uw:

Bama has played us and we beat em. They have film and i suspect would play us much better a second time. We are better than season game 2 and so is bama.

I like the match up with Mich. We match up physically and we have more speed than they do.

I like our chances vs. Wolverines.

I think our chances of winning are better against Michigan, but I'd rather play Alabama because:

1) Has any team ever beaten Bama twice in one year?

2) I like their QB (he's from Katy), was committed to us (during which time he recruited for us). give him a good view of what could have been".

Tough to choose but I chose Michigan because I dread all the whiners from fsu saying “See, we told you we should have been there instead of Bama!”.

I vote for Michigan for the reasons cited by Dion, WorsterMan, HalRex, Driver 8, and Texas1983.

And also because it would allow me to haul out my version of the Gonzales flag.

This^^, Would be totally allsome! Don't think it's ever been done. And how cool would it be if the Horns make some History on our way to the SEC, that can never be matched, as the playoff goes to 12 teams from here on.

I'm kind of torn. It's appealing to prefer Michigan based on their perceived offensive rankings, yet they've outscored us on offense for the season and still put up a decent ypa. I think the game will definitely play "quicker" against Michigan, in which we'll look up at the scoreboard at halftime and it'll be like 10-7 with basically a running clock to that point.

But with Bama, it's kind of the law of averages I'm worried about. Beating them twice in a season isn't likely.

I don’t think Michigan beats Bama but I’d like a piece of Harbough, plus that will leave no doubt who the #1 team in the country is :hookem:

That is exactly why Texas needs to do it. That will leave no doubt about who had the best team in 2023 and put the $EC on notice that there is a new Sheriff in town.

Personally I don’t like giving Bama the privilege of a rematch with us, especially with the national championship on the line. Our week 2 win over them would mean nothing.

They had their shot at Texas, on their home field, and failed. You shouldn’t get to just sneak back into that opportunity again later in the season with everything on the line, imo.

That’s not how it has traditionally worked before BCS or CFP. A team with an early loss was able to be no. 1 at end of season. Of course back then your bowl opponent was more less fixed, and you may or may not play them again. It was 100% possible to play a team in your bowl game that you previously lost to. Not sure if I can cite an example but the process would allow it.

I know but I don’t like it. I feel like a rematch favors the previous loser, but I don’t have any basis for that.

My one concern about Michigan is that they were able to score 26 points against Iowa’s vaunted defense.

Granted, it’s possible that Iowa’s vaunted defense was a bit overrated.

Lets just get there and play whomever. Who among us thought that we would have this discussion? If we play like we did against Tech or OSU, it wont matter who we play. Really. That’s the best Texas has looked since 2005 against Colorado. Offense and defense were top drawer.

Hell, we threw an interception that led to 7 points ( from the 2) and shrugged it off completely. Seven points were in salad time. Could easily have been 49-7. Thats championship football, defined.

Yes two things at play: when Texas is healthy and improvement thoughout the year. We will see the best Texas in the CFP.

Like most of us, I think we would all be thrilled to play either team on January 8th. To me though there would be some symmetry if we played and defeated Alabama. That would complete the “revenge tour,” beating Washington, and then extracting revenge for the 2009 team that was on its way until Colt went down.

By damn, I played this game for 8 years (HS included) and absolutely nothing in life exceeds the adrenalin rush of the pregame Eyes of Texas in a championship game. If you cant explode from that rush, you are half dead. These kids, basically all of them, have bought the UT karma and are highly motivated. I truly expect to see our best performance of the year, TWICE.

I want Michigan, but don't care much. Sugar Bowl should be mostly a Texas home game, at least 60 40 Orange. Same for Houston, maybe better. Bama fans are entitled so almost better to play them, they won't travel or pay to watch in Houston. MU fans are as hungry as Texas but from 800 miles away.

Hal, et al,

How can you feel sorry for or give a **** about a school who

1) less than 5% know the school song,

2) learn the school name because the words to the fight song are -

F L O R I D A S T A T E, Florida State, Florida State, Florida State WOOO!

3) Treated the man who made FSU a power like **** (great human being - "We'll go anywhere, any time, and play anybody

4) Duncanville could have beaten half the teams FSU did

Don't feel the least bit sorry for them. Agree w/you about how they treated Bowden. I just don't wanna hear anymore from them or their media supporters.

You should go to a game there. Better HS environment in Texas.

Everybody knows the tomahawk chop, nobody knows the fight song, and fewer know the school song. Fans are clueless about the rules.

My wife is an FSU grad. She is passionate about their football sucess. I'm supportive because that is HER team and she supports UT.

However, deep down I dont give a rats *** about FSU overall success, any more than Miss. State, Purdue, Arizona State, Rutgers, Clemson, etc. having success.

I'm 100% about UT success!!

Does make me a bad person?

Frankly Scarlett, I don't give damn if it does!!

Would rather have Michigan. More for the sake of variety and we have already beaten Bama. Beating all 3 teams in the playoff in a single year would be rather unheard of and nearly unrepeatable in the future I would imagine. Law of averages here too. I like the matchup against Michigan. Run defense on their run strength. But I am honestly not sure how they will match up against Bama. We have the speed and discipline to contain and bottle up Milroe. Don’t know about them. He’s the X factor in the CFP imho.
