Please pray for my friend

I have a friend, a guy I met in the New York Yankees chat room three years ago, who works in Manhattan; I don't know the address of his building. He lives a little upstate, about an hour, from NYC. I don't think he works in the WTC, but I think his building might be close.

He told me once that he could see the Statue of Liberty from his window. All I know about New York I learned from watching Seinfeld. Those of you who are more familiar with Manhattan, tell me: Can you see the Statue of Liberty from Midtown?

My electronic organizer chose this time to break, so I haven't got his phone numbers anymore. I can't remember the name of his company, and his home number is unlisted, so I can't get it now. He has not responded to my e-mails yet today. I hope that's because he's having a devil of a time getting home to his family and not because he's hurt or dead.

His name is John. Even though we've never met face to face, we're the best of friends. Please keep him, his wife and their two sons in your prayers. He's an outstanding father, very involved in his kids' liives, and a devoted husband. And ever since we met on the net, he's been rooting for our Longhorns, and he's loved Phil Simms since, as John says, he played for the Jints.

Thank you so very much.

depending on how tall the building is has alot to do with if you can see the statue of liberty. Do you know what floor he was on?

No, I don't know what floor he works on. He took this job about eight months ago, I think, and we've spend far more time talking about the Longhorns and Yankees than about work.

I know he used to work for SCC down near Battery Park, which I'm pretty sure is way south Manhattan. Then he took a temporary job that I think was in Midtown. But he went to this new job that I'm thinking he told me was near Battery Park again, but I'm not sure.

Damn it all. The unspeakable cruelty of cowards can bring a nation to its knees.

Pray for my friend Christine Lin who moved to New York 4 years ago. I haven't spoken to her all this time, but last I heard she was working for Morgan Stanley. I hope you are doing well. In the off chance you read this, please let me know you're okay!

Midtown is quite a ways away and battery park is very close. If he worked in the WTC he would tell you it is close to battery park, (simply because a NYer would consider the WTC a much better landmark.) However if he was in the battery park area he would be in higher risk than Midtown (if you remeber the shot of the WTC towers burning from a distance that had the empire state building in the foreground, that was taken from midtown) i think midwtown is a very safe distance away. Anyways i have heard numerous accounts of people how were very high up who have gotten out safely, but i will keep him in our prayers. From what you have said i think he will be safe though.

Superhero,
My brother works for morgan stanley and luckily he was in chicago today. Unfortunately, MSDW occupies a very large percentage of the WTC. My brother told me that they don't know anything right now about survivors, I will pray for all of them.

Texanne, if your friend worked in Battery park at the time of the attacks, then he may be out of harms way, depending on how far we was from ground zero. My father was 5 blocks from the explosion, so i could probably be of use.

I appreciate all prayers on John's behalf. I still have not heard from him, and although we're friends only through the internet, we're close enough that he would have gotten in touch with me if he were all right.

So I am afraid that I must consider the unthinkable -- that my friend is dead.

After losing Jose in July, I don't think I can bear this.

Any of you who have made close friends through the internet understand that an internet friendship can be just as close and lasting as the tradtional kind.

Please keep him in your prayers.

It's almost 10:30 a.m. Thursday and I still have heard nothing from my friend. I am so afraid that he is dead.

Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Don't forget, Texanne, if your friend is OK but was in a building that is not, he may very well not have internet access.

Now that I think of it, he wouldn't have internet access at all, unless he had a cable modem at home. I can only access at home sporatically. I've taken to using my work connection even for this stuff, as Verizon took a major hit up here. It goes without saying that if his building is below 14th (and almost every firm outside of Morgan Stanley & Chase has its HQ close to wall st.) he hasn't been at work since Tuesday morning.

Your friend probably just can't read his email.

I'll keep the good thoughts coming, though.

God does indeed answer prayers, because I got word today that my friend is OK and at home in Wappingers Falls with his family. He is alive and fine.

How can I possibly find words to thank all of you who offered prayers on his behalf without even knowing him? You'd like him if you did know him. He's just like one of us ... even if he is a Yankee!

Thank you to all. May God Bless you all, and May God Bless America.
