I'm open to voting GOP (that's you Christie!) , but as it stands with the current deck- I'm voting Obama- here's why:
1) I remember very well that the economy started crashing in September 2008, and in January 2009 the economy was losing about 400k/jobs/month. The economy is not a sports car that can turn on a dime, it is a freight train that takes years to notice fundamental changes.
2) Re: the budget- the POTUS is one of 3 parties who determine the 18% of the budget that is non-discretionary. He put out a deal on the table alongside Boehner that would have cut $4.25 trillion of additional debt from the future. This deal was lost in partisan bickering and we were left with the current crap.
3) I fully acknowledge HCR was not designed well nor handled well and he shouldn't have done this. However it has not legitimately hurt the economy further nor added a dime to our deficits (yet, if it ever will.)
4) I believe the programs that both he and GWB signed into law (TARP/stimulus) were very beneficial to the economy and saved hundreds of thousands of jobs- I also believe the net economic affect is a plus for tax payers.
5) I don't see what McCain, or a 2012 candidate would have done, or will do that is better.
6) No POTUS has done more to lessen dependency on foreign oil than Obama has, second place actually goes to GWB for also raising CAFE standards.
7) He proved he can be commander in chief. He has signed into a plan to remove troops (most of them) from Iraq and Afghanistan albeit a little late.
He needs to work more to create new jobs and help foster, alongside Boehner and McConnell, a better environment of bi-partisanship in DC. He is not perfect, but he is the top candidate IMO.
