Perry For POTUS

A good choice? No.

An improvement over what we have now? Without a doubt.

Hopefully the R's come up with someone better.

I agree with OF - Perry looks good ONLY in comparison to Obama. I can't imagine that he wouldn't be exposed for the douche he is in the course of a primary campaign.

Perry is the best example of what is wrong with politics. Speaks as a conservative, legislates only what benefits him.

If we are moving to next candidates, give me Christie...

I laughed at the idea that W could be nominated or elected president. Another indicator of my political acumen.

I no longer laugh when someone like Palin or Perry enter the race. You never know who the people will vote for. I'm sure some of you feel that way about Obama.

The viability of so many poor candidates makes me wonder if we would be better off with a Parliamentary system. Or maybe do something about the primaries, I don't know. Our system is truly just limping along in the elective branches.

Good points Roma. I think this is the reason the Electoral College was created. However, our modern exectution of that system really makes little sense.

There are no words in the English language that express how much this scares me. I fear for our nation if he is elected.

I hope Perry decides NOT to run and if he is in the primaries I would work really really hard for another candidate
but If he ends up the candidate I would vote for him.
The only thing scarier for our country than Obama winning in 08 is obama winning in 12

Why would someone with such antipathy toward the federal government seek to lead it?

perry loves government. it has been his day job for over 20 years. he was a big democrat in his day before he learned he could go farther as a republican.

On the topic of the primaries, the first step would be to get rid of them. Rather, have an open election and the top two candidates move to general election.

This is one of the simplest ways to improve the political system unless you think the political system should be for the benefit of political parties instead of voters.

Voters may be stupid, but I don't view them / us as collectively evil.

P.S. To be clear, California's change does not get rid of political parties. As much as I despise the tactics of political parties, they do serve a crucial function in the political system.

I found this rather ammusing. Perry "The Prophet"

During an interview with Neil Cavuto on FOX News this afternoon, Texas Gov. Rick Perry was asked about the criticism he’s received at home from Texas’ newspapers, fellow Republicans and opposition Democrats.

“The prophet is generally not loved in their hometown,” Perry said in response to the question.

He also was asked about when he thought he would have to make a decision on whether he’s running for president. He told Cavuto that there probably is a drop-dead date for getting into the race, but that he didn’t think he would have to make a decision this month. Perry also said that his wife is encouraging him to mount a bid for the White House.

Here’s how DC political news letter ‘The Hill’ described Perry’s answer to Cavuto’s question about running.

although I am a default democratic voter, I passed on voting in 2008 because I distrusted McCain and felt Obama was not prepared for a job where he could not vote present. We had just suffered through eight years of a president who was not properly prepared for the task and I had no desire to contribute to electing a new one.

I am open to voting for a decent republican (I did in 1992) but am not impressed by the current bunch too much. For the GOP to topple Obama, one of two things has to happen. One, the economy gets worse, which is possible. Two, the current economic malaise lingers and the gop nominates somebody that swing voters feel comfortable with.

I think Perry could win in case one but not in case two.

Romney could win in either and maybe one or two of the others.

So far I have not heard anyone come up with a plan that would end the economic slump; democrats can't favor cutting ss or medicare and republicans think cancer can be cured by cutting taxes.

Perry vs Obama.....the elites dream ticket. One things for sure, if either of these candidates win, we know what we are getting........an escalating continuation of the last three presidential terms. I cannot think of two more destructive candidates. One is not a better alternative than the other. Mr Trans Texas Corridor vs Mr Healthcare.

i am going to go out on a limb and predict Perry will NOT enter the presidential race.

Anything that gets the milkman out of Texas has got to be good. However I think that will give Obama the victory by default.
