My first choice, by far: Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl in Robert Altman's "Popeye."
Also, Mickey Rourke as "The Wrestler."
Christoph Waltz in "Inglourious Basterds."
Judy Garland as Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz."
Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Olivia de Havilland, Lesley Howard, Hattie McDaniel and Butterfly McQueen in "Gone With The Wind."
Woody Allen in all his semi-autobiographical movies dealing with various incarnations of Allen Stewart Konigsberg of New York City.
And, IMHO, to perhaps a slightly lesser degree:
Dustin Hoffman as "Tootsie."
Micheal J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd in "Back to the Future."
Javier Bardem in "No Country For Old Men."
Diane Keaton in "Annie Hall."
Paul Newman and Patricia Neal in "Hud."
Jeff Bridges as "The Dude."
Gregory Peck in "To Kill a Mockingbird."
Gene Hackman in "Hoosiers."
Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson in "Easy Rider."
All fine performances, for sure, aided and abetted greatly by perfect casting.
Hard for me to picture other actors performing those roles as well.
What are your thoughts?
