Paul Finebaum on Texas 2023

Old lineman are more important than old skill position players. Rarely does a 19 year old hand in the dirt player make a huge difference unless they're NFL caliber.

I think team chemistry has much more potential to coalesce into a team that's greater than the sum of it's parts when you're dealing with a locker room of 2 and 3 starts (OU 2000 is my personal example). 4-5 star teams have more of a challenge with chemistry. Riley didn't manage those personalities well. That's what makes Saban different (and apparently Smart). They can make 5 starts feel like they're overlooked 2stars and play with that intensity.

OUBubba, good to see you back on Hornfans. You raise a point about intensity - IMO, you should never have to question intensity in this matchup. Talent may be one-sided, breaks may go all one direction - but intensity should never be in question.
Agree. I enjoy the football side of the house. I have to be less of an a-hole here. :)

Bubba
Like it or not we are in this together So as difficult as it is to say this I hope ou runs over every other Big 12 opponent.

The last 12 years = 4-10 with one of those being avenged in the conference championship game. Maybe intensity and hatred hasn't been what it was supposed to be. I do think Sark may be different. Time will tell.

Wasn't OU favored in all those games expect 2022? The only not close ones are the oldest two and youngest one. Hopefully a sign in the right direction.

Bubba,
What's your take on this season's matchup between us?
Do we get the shut-out again?
Do we score more or less than 50 this time?
I predict it will be a good game with a lot of hard hitting. I'm not predicting an outcome. We played Ok for some time in our game with NO quarterback last year. We were just MMA fighting with one hand tied behind our back. Regardless, you were the better team last year. No shut out and negative on the 50. 38-34 someone.

It's lunch and I looked them up. Damn! The point in support of my argument is that the point spread is not that relevant in a rivalry game like this one. But, dang. You are correct. Throw in the fact that Texas betting money is almost as horny drunk as Notre Dame money and people would be smart to bet the dog in this every year. Here are the spreads for that period.

2010 - OU 4.5
2011 - OU 10
2012 - OU 3
2013 - OU 12.5
2014 - OU 14.5
2015 - OU 17
2016 - OU 11.5
2017 - OU 7.5
2018 - OU 8
2018 #2 - OU 8
2019 - OU 10.5
2020 - OU 3
2021 - OU 3.5
2022 - UT 8.5

I could accept another 45-35.
