Patrick Swayze is dying of cancer

My mother died of pancreatic cancer that metastasized to other areas. We found out she was sick on February 23, 1983, and she died March 15.

I am deeply sad for anyone who has to go through this agonizing death.

And Patrick Swayze is a hell of a dancer.

A Waltrip High School (Houston) guy, class of 71, I think. My sister went to his mom's dance studio, so he came by the dancing thing naturally. Still married to the girl he went steady with in high school, Lisa Niemi.

If his cancer is terminal, I wish him a good journey.

He dated a friend's mom in high school. He called her every few years, which didn't surprise us because she was an awesome lady. Sadly, she passed several years ago...also due to cancer.

F cancer.

He always struck me as a good guy. Great on SNL, will always be tied to several classic movies, and great on talk shows.

I hope he's well - like another poster said, cancer of the pancreas is the worst. It's a death sentence. I'm very sad to learn this .

He's given me/others some great entertainment and always carried himself as a gentlemen. I send the best vibes and prayers his way.

My Mom told me of [thsi] before I read this thread. I was a fan.

Limit the jokes.

Was he a bad guy in "Point break"?

Had a buddy in junior high/high school whose Dad died of pancreatic cancer. I still remember him breaking down in tears when his Mom came to a scout meeting with the news that his Dad had passed away. Lost my own father to esophageal cancer the next year.

roadhouse was on last night on versus. it was weird watching ps in that movie and thinking that he may die soon.

may he spend the rest of his time on earth with peace, happiness and dignity.

So sad to hear of ANYONE with cancer. F cancer!!

It took my Mom at the young age of 39. She was diagnosed wtih colon cancer at her annual checkup, but by the time they started chemo and everything, it had already spread to her liver and other organs. She lived about 5-6 months after being diagnosed. Lost my aunt(mother's sister) to ovarian cancer, uncle to throat cancer, grandmother(dad's side) to breast/lung cancer. I HATE IT!! WHY WHY WHY can't they find a cure for cancer after the millions of dollars that are given for research, etc..??

Best of luck to Swayze! And yes... he was a damn good dancer!!

Unfortunately, biomedical research doesn't work that way. There are a lot of things we just don't know yet.

And the woman who is trying to find the cure:

There is no such thing as "the cure" (if we're talking about cancer in general).

There may be many cures, or more accurately, many approaches, treatments, and procedures that will work for various lengths of time for some people. Which means they won't work for others.

There will, in all likelihood, never be a "cure" for cancer. At least in our lifetimes, imo.

Yes, this is very sad news but I'm sure he will put up a helluva fight. I understand this type of cancer is horrible. However, miracles do happen and he needs all the positive vibes he can get. So, here's hoping he gets well soon!!

I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer a couple of years ago. Diagnosed on Tuesday, and she passed the following Monday. We were told we were "lucky" it was fast. I pray for who suffer through a lengthy illness from this one.

Prayers for the Swayze family....

How could his greatness in "Next of Kin" (1989) not deserve a mention? I love Swayze, in a manly way, and am praying for his recovery.

Cancer really ******* pisses me off.

Robbed my wife of her mother 2 years ago ... one of the greatest individuals I've ever known.

Lost my dad to neuroendocrine cancer (similar to, but rarer than pancreatic) in June.

I vividly remember Dad giving me the "4 to 6 weeks to live" speech. At 33 years old, I melted into his arms in tears when he told me. I then spent the next 5 weeks (that's how long he made it) saying all the things I wanted to say to him, and asking him all the questions I could think of.

On the first day, it was hard to imagine he would become so frail and die within 5 weeks. By the end, it was hard to imagine that he was so well 5 weeks earlier. It's a tough ride that I don't wish on anyone.

God bless the Swayzes.

Right now, Whoopi Goldberg is thinking that Demi Moore better stay the **** away from her.

Since the whole cast from The Fast and the Furious is coming back for 4 Fast 4 Furious (or whatever the hell they decide to call it), you'd think they could bring back the whole cast for Red Dawn 3.

This sucks. I lost my grandfather a couple months ago to pancreatic cancer. This type of cancer really...well just sucks. My mom is battling cancer too right now.

F Cancer.

Hope Swayze recovers from this and stays strong.

Major bummer. I really do hope he manages to pull through okay...or if his time really is drawing near, that he won't suffer. I seem to recall that a similar form of cancer took Michael Landon way before his time a decade or two ago.

I lost my grandma to cancer a few years ago. The hardest part was that I found out on Monday, and she passed away on Friday before I could make it out to see her one last time. I guess I can take solace in the fact that she didn't suffer long. But it still pisses me off to this day. Cancer ******* sucks.
