OU @ Texas 01/25/2023

Great team effort tonight. THAT Texas team that showed up tonight is a tough out for most opponents. I sure hope we can keep that up consistently.
Oh yeah... and who the hell let Brenda on the Longhorn Network?!!:cursing:

Sonya has improved so much this season, particularly defensively. Seeing her start the game guarding Taylor Robertson had me a little nervous but she did very well. Even had a couple flashy assists.

Great team win, on to OKST Saturday.

Hook ‘em

Oh my goodness, who ever thought Texas would hold Llanusa, Williams and Robertson to single digit scoring? If I'd known, I could have quit chewing my nails!:yikes: Shaylee had a monster game and she's quickly become my most valuable player (after Rori, of course). I think Vic could have rested Rori the last 3 minutes or so, but I think he wanted to hold the Sooners below 60points!:hookem2:

Great, great game. So much fun. Great crowd. And those few season tickets holders who claimed to boycott the Pride Night were absolutely not missed. A thousand wonderfully diverse and open minded students showed up instead! It was electric in the Moody tonight!

Texas Defense destroyed OU Offense!!!!

Still too many fouls from the refs but at least they were fairly even. I swear they blow the whistle anticipating a foul rather than waiting for one to actually happen.

Anybody know what OU averages per game in points because I’m pretty sure we held them WAY under it.
They were trying to constantly keep fresh bodies in the game from the get go but it didn’t pay off in the 4th as I bet they planned

I think close to 80. (Edit: closer to 90 :yikes: at 87.3 coming into this game)

Per Big12sports.com, OU averages 85.8 overall and 83.4 in conference. I think that includes tonight's game.
EDIT: WCBBNUT posted while I was typing. So, we brought their average down a few points!

I heard 87.3...#3 in country.

It was really nice they held Pride Night on such a big game. Great pregame and halftime performances. Great energy. Great music! GREAT GAME!

Sighhhh. Someone needs to help Vic relax. LOL.

Who is Brenda? And where was Andrea?

Guys, I had to take care of something for work that made me miss most of the second half. When I got home, I walked in and saw what looked like Vic chewing on someone during a timeout (Taylor?) with about 2 mins left, but then I saw the score and we were up by 19. LOL. Anyone know what the deal was other than Vic gonna Vic?

Great, great

You nailed it, Vic gonna Vic.

Andrea had knee surgery day before yesterday, so Brenda called the game. Brenda was an announcer for the Big 8, way back when. She still announces some in the Big 12 and other conferences.

Andrea will be back for Saturday's game. Oh and she was at the game tonight, as a spectator.

Thoughts:
1. When Texas hit it's first 8 shots, I was wondering when that has happened if ever
2. I saw Taylor Robertson and thought, "My goodness, how many years of eligibility does she have left?"
3. The lesser Joens sister left ISU for a reason
4. A lot of mishandling of the ball by OU. I suspect the reason is because they score so often and so quickly that there's not usually a lot of time spent passing the ball around
5. You're right. Gonzalez is morphing into JAT
6. Both Amina and Jack need to go see an eye doctor. At one point I was pleading with Jack NOT to shoot the ball
7. I love it when Jones gets the ball and she's in the paint and someone is bodying her up. You see the gears turn in her head as she's preparing her next move. No panic and quick toss back outside
8. And then she turns and makes her move!
9. With 10 seconds to go, OU coach moves to go shake Vic's hand and they have an extra long time shaking hands as the OU coach is obviously talking nice to Vic about our players. She seemed to be gesturing with her head at some of our players.
10. Nice change from some other [cough, cough] rivals of ours
11. Attendance tonight: 6,623
12. We "beat" the student attendance record with 834. 834 is enough to set the high? Many student interest in women's BB is worse than I imagined!

I swear some of those OU players have been playing for a decade now.

They have grandchildren in Jr Hi by now.
Surely some of them are done this year! Just saw Robertson tied the record for three pointers made. The gal can shoot, but she did not get hers tonight.

Had to go look just to see it for myself and yep, Texas sits atop the Big 12 at almost the halfway point. Unranked…for now

LOL. I bet watching it live on TV was frustrating because you didn’t know the outcome. Watching the replay, Brenda didn’t bother me. It actually made me think of how much better UT does at televising the games than any of the other B12 schools. Better production quality and better announcers. I swear the TCU, Tech, OKS, ISU etc broadcasts feel like one of their player’s aunts is tapped to call the game. Aunt Becky doesn’t know how to pronounce the names of our players and often whines about the refs calling something on her niece’s team. The bias is overwhelming and then the picture and audio quality is so lacking. Drives me crazy. LHN is almost indistinguishable from an ESPN or network broadcast.

Of course Taylor Robertson has the record for most threes. She’s been playing for 12 seasons.

I had to work so just now watching game. The ladies played about as good as we’ve seen all year. OU is terrible defensively but they defense is they offense to a extent. I thought Sonya was key in this win along with Amina. These 2 freshman we have are good better than what give credit sometimes. Mentally for Jak to be up for this game and not playing in the last 2 or 3 games to come on a contribute like she did was wonderful. I wish I could pull her to the side and hug her and tell her she’s enough cause you can tell she’s hard on herself and she is trying to play Vic way and I admire that in player. Amina is just cut from the cloth of Vic Desoto made her college ready from a standpoint of readiness. Once she develops some offense people should be scared of her. By her Jr year I hope and think she’ll be a 8-10ppg, 7-10rpg type player starting or not. Sonya has started stacking games quietly and I notice it. She has been a little late to the party more so than Shaylee but yea she coming. She made that one defensive mistake and Vic got on her for helping off Robertson and she took it person and after that made everything harder for her. I feel bad for Faye because she is playing hard and she picks up others fouls off of helping or just a slight over play. I think soon she and Taylor will switch back and maybe that will take pressure off Faye and help her out. I could go on and on

Good win!!!

I still feel like we need even more improvement on beating the zone. For a while in the second, OU kept finding cutters and back doors and we were settling for a lot of outside stuff. Fortunately we were making them.

Still wish we could clean up fouls.

LOVE it when Deyona gets a a short jumper. She’s so money there. (Rori is great too but I LOVE when Deyona does that.)

Obviously a good win, but still missed so many chips and close shots.

Good to see Jak play a lot tonight.

I wonder if Jones is ready to start now. I know he likes the first woman up mentality but I think Faye may benefit too. See how refs are calling the game more.

We’ve done okay at Moody. Now we gotta do it on the road.
