I loved Major and always will. But I remember Lance Zierlien? on 610 in Houston way back in the day talking about the “legend of Major Applewhite” being greater than the reality. Major had his struggles too. He got totally stymied against KState, OU and Nebraska at times in his career. Not saying Simms was better. But Major was not John Elway. Would Major have beaten Colorado had he started that game in the big 12 championship? I almost guarantee he would have. Simms turnovers killed us that night. But beyond that? I don’t know.

Major was also hurt during a key part of the season.

I always thought Simms was more talented but didn’t have enough grit while major was less physically talented but was a gamer and a better leader. Kind of like comparing Josh heupel to Landry jones even though they didn’t compete against each other for playing time. Landry was Uber talented but not the leader that Josh was.

Will Never FORGET Major in Lincoln getting knocked out with probable concussion and refusing to leave the sideline. He sat on his helmet on the sideline.
