OU game - football thoughts

One ou game years ago I yelled so much, I spoke in a whisper after the game and barely had voice on Sunday.

Thinking a game Horns lost ... 1982 maybe?

I can see it going wither way Saturday.

My preferred outcome is, Ou stacking the box early, Casey clicking on passes of 12-20 yds downfield w/ some WR screens and swings to JWhitt. An Ou gassed defense in the final 35-40 minutes get a nice mix of Bijan, RoJo, KR runs, bootlegs by Casey along with some quick hitting routes.

If we blow these guys out (a BIG if) it could end Lincoln Riley's run on recruiting depending on how they handle it going fwd. With ole Mo on our side & with the impending move to the SEC , we could develop a different view by HS coaches and parents. Anm and aggy would be looking at our one spot (as DKR called an *******), which is completely upside down from just 6 weeks ago

83, maybe? 82 (;oss) was close for awhile, but we bent them over good in 83. Was there for both, the last time I attended back to back TEXAS- OU games

82, 83. The tale of 2 Marcus Dupree's

82 was a game we lost and I think you're right about that game. The fake reverse td of Dupree's just let the air out of our team as well as our side of the stadium.

At the time Switzer was under intense pressure. We had beaten them 3 of the last 4 and I recall talk shows here (1080, 820am) sooner fans wanted to ditch the bone, given Dupree and for some reason they thought kelly Phelps could complete a forward pass. If he lost that game it's conceivable a coaching change could happen.

Looking back, that's a huge reason we needed that game. No one could recruit Texas like Switzer. Get him out, and the path seemed easy

What we didn't know at the time, was there were internal issues with the team that came to light a year later. Sabre knows this better than me, but from what I recall was some of our players asked recruits to go elsewhere. Hard to believe because we were undefeated going in vs UGA at the time of the comments

I think okie will stack the box and force CT to beat them passing.
That's a likely scenario.

Casey can put the ball up there, the WRs have to go up and get it and catch and hold onto the ball. OU's zone is like swiss cheese. J. Whitt has a real knack for finding the holes in the zone (and coverage in general). I bet he has a big day. Use the TEs, play action passes, etc. Sark knows what to do, I bet he finds and exploits the weaknesses.

J Whitt and Worthy should be able to get some YAC but I really think the key to opening up the field will be taking the top off the defense. The deep fade/post/wheel routes to Josh Moore or Marcus Washington are crucial to make OU defend the entire field. If we can't do that, OU will play with 11 defenders within 15 yards of the line of scrimmage.

That is a tough way to win a ball game. It will take multiple 15+ play drives. One penalty and t he whole thing stalls out. Josh Moore and Marcus Washington - this is your day to shine!!

Game totally hinges on Thompson throws being on target AND the receivers catching the ball. Everyone is right, OU will load the box for Bijan.

I disagree. The game totally hinges on the o-line managing that OU d-line which is the best they've had in decades. I have a feeling Thompson will be running for his life all day. BR needs a big day to control the game.

Bijan will frequently make something out of nothing—that’s what he does. Successful passing will open up the running game even more. KSU passed the ball well on OU, and their QB is no Casey Thompson.

watch for lots of new looks and plays.

I think the last time OU covered the tight end was when Coach Wilkinson was at OU. What the hell will they do if Sark puts three or four on the field at one time?

Great point, but it doesn't take a HP slugga to know how to attack a superior DL. Throw short routes early on, make the 300#ers run east west early also. Make them run wind sprints basically. An emotionally challenged hoops coach once said "fatigue makes cowards of us all". So true

We just need to convert early on, which we didn't do vs Arkansas. Our D was worn down 10 minutes into the game because we couldn't keep the chains moving, the rest is history

Handicapping this game is almost impossible.

Will the underperforming Sooner offense find it’s rhythm tomorrow, or will it continue to wallow in mediocrity as compared to their recent teams? Gut feel is that they are improving, but only very slowly.

Will Casey find his deep receivers? I think it’s just a matter of time before he has a breakout “long ball” game. I do think it could be tomorrow. Hope so.

Obviously controlling the LOS on both sides is critical. If Kwiatkowski is as good as we hope, tomorrow will be a good day for our D-Line. We seem to have the horses.

Like everyone, I am concerned about how our O-Line will perform. But I think that Casey’s escapability is underrated. He may get sacked, but I am expecting for him to have a number of breakout runs, frustrating their D. Because of this facet of CT’s game, I don’t believe that OU can completely focus on Bijan.

I really like the prospect of Sark outwitting and out-scheming the opponent tomorrow. It’s about time.

I’m definitely nervous. How far have we come since Fayetteville? Not sure. Our inability to convert numerous gifts into more
points last Saturday has me concerned. That game should have been 42 or 46 to 20, but it wasn’t. Yet, we did find a way to win.

I “think” we have the firepower to light it up tomorrow, but I’m not sure.

Maybe, just once, we have a laugher in this game.

I am nervous, as well.
I want Sark to out-coach and Casey to outplay these dirt burglars and bring home the Golden Hat.
But the realist in me is saying "we should lose this game so don't get your hopes to high".
But then again, we definately have the talent to pull it off.
Especially if Bijan finds his stride.
Beat the hell out of OU!!
Damnit!
Hook'em!

Well that just about covers all scenarios.

Any Horns up is fine with me. The OU O Line sucks and that is why we will win. Should be a good day!

Can anyone be kind enough to explain to me what gives you hope that our DL can take advantage of a weak ou OL?

Also, will Sark learn not to try to run Bijan into a brick wall on the goal line? How about let Wiley play the role of Kerry Cash? How many DB's, LB's can cover 6'8"?

And if you're going to run in to a brick wall at least put in Watson behind Collins, Sweat, Coburn, or someone that can imitate Roy Miller. Maybe that's Murphy, but there has to be someone that push the DL back a half yard.
