OU 3-star players

Gary Patterson's a very good head coach, he has the right staff in place, and TCU's in a conference that's challenging and respected, but not so much as the BCS conferences.

That's by way of saying that there's nothing to stop the Frogs from having a very highly-rated football program year in and year out.

Patterson's already had offers, but seems to be happy in Fort Worth. He and his staff are obviously able to develop the talent they recruit. He's impressive enough that I would love to see him stay where he's at. I would NOT like to see him go to the cow college located east of us...he's one head coach that might be able to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear with aggy.

Back to the point...sure you want the higher-rated players coming out of high school. At the end of the day however, a lot of a program's success is gonna hinge on how well the three star and less recruits are developed. zero-u used to be better at it, while Mack and staff have become very good at developing it.

TCU may be ranked #4 and be undefeated, but they still do not enjoy all the benefits that successful big schools do. Being ranked that high doesn't change their facilities, it doesn't get them on national TV and it doesn't increase the size or attendance at their stadium.

I believe that TCU is positioned perfectly to stem the tide of Texas recruits going to OU, while getting a solid #2 position in Texas.

OU gets so many recruits from the metroplex, I think TCU could get sneak in and get some interest from 4 star recruits. Especially if the Mountain West gets a TV deal, which they need very much.

TV, win 12 games, 4 star recruits will perk up and give TCU a serious look.

Win 12 games and the citizens of Fort Worth almost have to start filling up the stadium.

The notion that the number of 3 star recruits being a result of the 2009 season is a bit premature. The majority of this years class had verbaled before the season had even started. Also, OU is still in the race for Jeffcoat, Kenny Stills, Tony Jefferson, Chris Martin and Darius White. All Top 100 kids.

Two things I think you have to look at OU's recruitment of 3 star players:
1. Offer list of the 3 stars in this years class.
2. OU's history of developing 2-3 star talent.

Compare the offer list of OU's 3 star players versus some of UT's 4 star players. Yes, I know Texas historically gets some of their commits early however they are very comparable. Torea Peterson (UT, USC), Aaron Franklin (UT, Big 12), Julian Wilson (Florida).

OU has a history of developing 3 star players and making the most of them. Austin English, Brody Eldridge, Brian Jackson, Adrian Taylor, Trent Williams, Sam Bradford, Juaquin Iglesias. These are just a few from the last 3-4 recruiting classes.

I think OU will feel the effects of the 2009 season next year. Couple that will a possible UT national championship and it could prove to be a tough road next year. Regardless I think both schools will be continue to lead the Big 12 in recruiting.

Jerry World,

The 3-star discussion had nothing to do with this year for the very reasons you stated. It had to do with trends over the last 8 years and that using Rivals stars, they are trending downward.

Everyone develops some 3 star players. Look at TCU; they may be the second best team in the country.

Analysis several years ago showed that the higher the star rating, the greater the chance that said team will do well in the coming years. Moreover, OU's issues with the OL continue and regardless of whether LJ is a good QB, no one can pass well when running for their lives.
