OU 2008 is NOT OU 2007

... or OU 2006 or OU 2005 or OU 2004. I'm seeing a few threads where folks are questioning the legitimacy of our performances to this point. Before anyone calls me on the carpet for being insecure, I only started this thread to spark some discussion, so don't go getting your burnt-orange panties in a wad.

This OU team is not the 2007 team. It is obvious to say that, I know, but based on what I've seen of the 2008 team, the difference is stark. It just "feels" different -- and in a positive way, too.

Last year, we'd have gone up to Seattle, pussyfooted around with that Husky team and kept them in the game until a couple of late scores sealed the game. Such a victory could be chalked up to nothing more than an overwhelming talent advantage. Nothing more.

This year we go up to Seattle and mudhole the Huskies. I know UW isn't a great team, by any measure, but that fact only underscores my point. Does anyone remember how we looked versus Iowa St. last year? 17-7. And that was a game all the way until the end.

Again, maybe some of you didn't see that game in Ames, or haven't seen much of the first 3 games this season, but I can assure you, while the difference may seem subtle as an outsider following the scores, the contrast as an avid follower of the program is palpable.

Assuming this team is going to simply fall apart, like it has been wont to do in the recent past, seems silly to me.

I think if anything Bradford would take a hit in production next year when the O-Line loses some starters this year. and then pick up later in the season. He is very lucky to be behind a good o-line for two seasons, does wonders for his development to the point where he can work through a shoddy o-line the following season.

Colt looked awesome his freshman year but as we all saw last year not so much with the o-line have trouble. This year he looks good again behind a good o-line however he's still prone to doing some things he did last year, namely start scrambling instead of stepping up in the pocket.

True OU 2008 certainly looks different than OU 2007. It should look different, as much of the offense is a year older and a year more experienced.

But it so hard to tell just how good anyone is until they are pushed. OU 2008 has not been challenged yet. It will be in the coming weeks and then we will see what they have and can they continue to improve.

I believe the offense will be fine and only get better. The jury is still out on the defense. I think there are two issues on defense. One is can we stay healthy and the other is can our inexperienced secondary step up to the challenges ahead of them.

Of course all of this is what makes college football so wonderful. But at the same time this and the fact that we play a bunch of nobodies makes it hard to say just how good OU 2008 is, at this time.

I like the way they seem to be progressing but early season rankings scare me. I don't think OU is the number one team in the nation. I have my doubts that they are the number two team in the nation.

Time will tell but until that time comes the past is what people have to look at so it is fair to look at our past several seasons to predict our future. Of course looking at 1999 and 1998 wouldn't get you fair in predicting 2000 would it?

Thanks to Ike I missed all college games but blOwU seems like they're the team to beat this year. Doesn't appear (OK, I've only read about this game against the huskeys) that they're hitting on all eight cyclinders. Not too terribly surprising however.

They still have some challenges ahead. Can't get too confident Okies. Bedlam or us (perhaps even Tech) could hold a suprise for you.

I agree with OUE, overall the 2008 Sooners are a better team than the 2007 Sooners.

Which is why Longhorn fans will feel VERY good about our team after we beat the Sooners in Dallas on October 11th.

this team feels like the 03 team. just scoring at will and dominating people up front on both sides. we just have so many weapons this year.

however, that team got pounded by USC, so i'm not going to get too excited just yet.

with the quality of the schedule from this point forward, every week is going to be exciting going in. the big 12 is awesome this year, and this is the best team we have had in a few years. let's hope we can keep it up. as good as this team looks, anyone from OSU to Kstate, can put it to you if you are off for a day.

if texas can play with the type of intensity we saw last year at the RRS (even though it was in a loss, texas played very tough), this should be a good one.

OUengineer...

I'm so glad you feel our thoughts and threads about your ballclub concern us so much...are you tired of the endless
educational rhetoric and knowledge on the Sooner boards.

Offensively they look really tough but outside of murray and Grisham I don't see a lot to fear individually.

No offense but your defense is not that great I think Texas can both pass and run on them with equal success.

The big question mark is the Texas secondary, can they mature enough to cover the Sooner receivers. There is no doubt Texas has tons of talent back there but they are extremely young and raw. If they can learn their assignments and how to cover experienced receivers like JI I think Texas leaves Dallas with the W.

I think Texas will put up about 24 pts on the sooner defense, it remains to be seen if Texas can stop the sooner offense from putting up more than 24 pts

Blow-U & Horns highly rated

One team looks dynamite against cream-puffs and the other has questions about young players, hoping they can step up.

Same song, different verse every October.

This is why anyone who has not attended Tx/OU just doesn't get it.

I don't know why, but I just feel OU is on a mission this year. That team is destroying anything and everything in its path.

Long way to go, but as I said in my wrapup, SC and OU are the two best teams at this moment.

ou usually starts off gang-busters and rips the **** out of their oponents early in the season, where they usually beat Texas and then something happens where they kinda Peter out and barely win the Big 12 and then of course lose the BCS bowll.

Heres how you started last year and your rank:

North Texas #8 W 79–10
Miami #5 W 51–13
Utah State #3 W 54–3

I will never forget last year there was an OU poster here - may have been 'notreally' - who flat out said "this is the best OU team of the last 30 years" 4 weeks into the season.

You Sooner fans need to relax. Yes, your team looks damn good but you just beat up a team that was totally demoralized after getting hosed on a call, whose coach is going to get fired, and a team who pretty much sucks balls.

Let's wait till you play some real opponents before proclaiming this is the greatest Sooner team of all time.

Come on Sooners....don't you already feel just a bit apprehensive about potentially facing USC again?

If I remember correctly the last time your all-world team faced the Trojans you got pounded. That inconjuction with your recent failures in bowl games if I were a Sooner I'd want no part of the Trojans.

Besided I think you should let the Horns take care of USC, we have a better track record against them recently.

Not buying it at all.

Stoops formula with 80-90% accuracy.

1. Early in the season look like a top 3 team. (all but 1 year) Compare current defense to the '85 Bears. Joe Montana called and asked Bradford for advice.
2. Beat Texas, prance around like a rooster.
3. Get punked in a post Texas conference game, but claim it a fluke. Throw visor. Blame ref's.
4. Defeat handily the North school cream puff for the Conference Championship. Flip off media, act indignant.
5. Embarrass the Conference by being outcoached by lesser opponent in BCS. Blame players.

I see NOTHING different. OU ALWAYS looks great in September when Bomarr isn't the QB. This is your life. Better win in Dallas or you have NOTHING!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, that's it, now that one hurt. You're in for it now mister.
