Chop, I agree - with one exception. I find it a bit difficult to like Tennessee (because they have an ou QB as head coach) and I really wanted to see the Bama-Georgia rematch of undefeateds.By far, the best Saturday in college football for the year.
I'm thinking Bielema would have little interest in the Nebraska, or even the Wisconsin job (if he were ever pursued). He's got it going at U of I, which has been a sleeping giant for a long, long time. Big population state. Good enough HS football (I think). Not far from Ohio to poach more blue chips. And they have an old storied history of skull-cracking linebackers.Bielema has his moments and this is working out for him this year. They play tough defense this year. However, The Big 10 is way down this year. And last year he got whupped by the Roadrunners at home.
For some reason I thought Butkus was #51. Maybe at da bears?
Had to run 100 hundred stands/bleachers for missing the afternoon practice of two a days to go see Dick Butkus and Gayle Sayers play the Oilers in a preseason game. I think that was in 1967.Chop, nice post on IL... when I played ball 50+ years ago.... #50 / # 51 LB Dick Butkus was THE Gold Standard for a defensive football player on any level.
Incredible work ethic, football smart, 110% every play, intimidating, punishing tackler.
I remember our coaches frequently invoking his name during 2-a-days and practices.
(possible great grandson of Curly Joe...)
finally Denver muffed a punt, and the Chargers' kicker made his fourth FG of the night to win the game
