We should hire their coach.Marquette is a juggernaut.
They kick some serious a$$.
We’re playing those stoners soon. How are the nutmeggers doing this year?
Some people didn’t recognize greatness in their presence. And they were proven wrong. We should hire their coach.
I don't think it was odd, per se. Our bball culture is what it is. Shaka coached 6 NBA players at Texas, but literally none of them were guys who could take over a game, protect the ball, shoot well, or be any sort of on-court general to distribute to other guys. He inherited a "Barnes" team without having a "Barnes" ability to coach that up.Shaka wasn't great here. And I really don't understand why not.
Something really odd was going on and it affected his program/coaching.
Fair enough. That's as good an explanation as any I have heard.I don't think it was odd, per se. Our bball culture is what it is. The moment we got Beard, he made an effort to get those types of guys instead and it made an immediate impact on team success. I think Shaka probably could have done better if he was encouraged to shed the dead weight, but it was the pre-NIL days and he didn't have that kind of tool.
Good coach, no doubt. Questionable off-court antics and inner circle crazies are what sank the USS Beard while in port in Austin.Ole Miss took down #4 Bama on the road. Glad we got rid of that Beard guy, he can’t coach at all.
More like finding himself in the brig after shore leave than a ship docked at port.Good coach, no doubt. Questionable off-court antics and inner circle crazies are what sank the USS Beard while in port in Austin.
And it all led to a General Discharge for good of the service.More like finding himself in the brig after shore leave than a ship docked at port.

It's not that simple Vol when there are money and donations involved. No, a university more concerned about optics instead of the truth is what got Beard fired.

Maybe that girlfriend of Beard's got a Section 8 discharge. And it all led to a General Discharge for good of the service.
Unfortunately the optics of the type of situation Beard was in don't go away easily. In relationship abuse, once someone accuses someone else, the idea that it happened tends to stick no matter the outcome. There are numerous cases where the person making the acccusations and then saying it didn't really happen are because the abused has ulterior motives for taking back the accusation. It makes it hard to distinquish the real truth in these cases. I have no idea where the truth lies with Beard. I do understand why the optics stand. In the case of those (like Beard) who end up in situations like this, you rid yourself of the baggage and move on. That's about all you can do so it doesn't happen again.Everything was cleared by the end of the season. He could have been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation and he would have come back the next year with everyone happy as a clam. Had a trial and conviction happened then he gets fired. I can promise a crappy program for years will cost us more in donations, attendance revenue, etc. than a couple months of upset donors.
The finicky part about donors is when we end up below .500 in conference play and missing the tourney this year they will yet again threaten to cancel donations if another change isn't made. I believe it was more pressure from administration than it was about donations.
Klinger, up!!Maybe that girlfriend of Beard's got a Section 8 discharge.

Art Briles would like a word…Winning makes everything fade away very quickly. There is an enormous amount of evidence of this across every league pro and college.

Wow! Shaka's still on a roll. Little Marquette is #7 in the Nation--I wish we were in that spot about now. Some people didn’t recognize greatness in their presence. And they were proven wrong.
He’s no Tourney* Terry (*NCAA).Wow! Shaka's still on a roll. Little Marquette is #7 in the Nation--I wish we were in that spot about now.
