The conference leading Cowboys come to Austin for the last home conference series of the year for Texas.

If Texas has any title hopes the Horns have to at least win this series. A series loss would also make things like hosting any post season play less likely.

Parker French at 4-3 with 2.27 era, faces junior right hander Jon Perrin at 5-2 and 2.11.

Sauler Saxon, the centerfielder for OSU leads off the game against French as the game begins.

The left handed hitter stands in and a chopper is barehanded by Marlow at second and the nice play is out one.

Donnie Walton at short, also bats left handed against French as a switch hitter.
He lines one at Marlow this time for two away.

Tanner Krietemeier at first base, bats left handed and chops one back to French to retire the side in order.

Texas comes to bat looking to dent the scoreboard in the first.

Marlow leads off as he has all season against the righty Jon Perrin in the Texas first.

The left handed batting second baseman grounds to short and the throw goes 6-3 for one away.

Johnson bats righty and he gounds to second for two down.

Payton stand in the left sided batter's box with two away and none on.
He walks for a two out base runner and his on base streak now goes to 82 games.

Barrera with a man on and two down bats right handed.
Payton is of course a threat to steal, especially with two down.
He does go and makes it safely.

So Barrera with the rbi shot steps back in.
A little chopper to short retires the side and strands Payton.

So with an inning gone there nothing but zero on the board in the run column.

French starts the Cowboy second against the catcher Gage Green.

He is yet another left handed hitter and lays a bunt down the third base line and Barrera gets out quickly and makes the play in time for one away.

The right fielder,Zach Fish bat righty for the first batter in that direction and grounds the first pitch to third for a quick two down.

Tim Arakawa, at second base is another lefty hitter and he flies to left to Johnson to retire the side in order once more.

Texas comes to bat in the second looking to break the scoring ice.

Perrin faces Hinojosa as the Texas second starts.

He steps in right handed against the right hander.
A jam shot goes to center and the centerfielder comes in and makes the catch for one away.

Shaw bats lefty and runs the count full before taking the walk.

So a one out base runner this inning brings Gurwitz to the plate from the right side.

Shaw is the leading base sttealer on the team at first.

Gurwitz sends a soft liner to right center that falls in for the first hit of the game.

That puts two on at first and second for Clemens batting left handed.
Again Texas a runner in scoring position, this time with one down.

Clemens steps back in. He also walks on a high fast ball just as Shaw did to load the bases.

The pitching coach comes out for a visit.
He returrns to the third base dugout.

Jacob Felts, at DH tonight bats right handed in a big situation early in this game.

He grounds into the 4-6-3 double play that retires the side and strands more runners. DH has been a big problem since Carter went down to injury.

Two innings played and tied at nada.

The third commences with French facing Connor Costello in left field.

Another comebacker is snagged by French for anotrher quick out and one down.

A pinch hitter is Dustin Williams who bats for the listed DH as OSU plays a cat and mouse game.

It doesn't work as he K's swinging on three pitches for two down.

Craig McConaughy plays third and bats right handed.

He sends a liner to center for the first OSU hit and base runner.

So that brings the top of the order in Saxton with two away.
The count runs full and that gives the base runner a start on the next pitch.

A walk puts two on now with two away as the pitch was high.

First runner in scoring position for OSU brings left handed Walton back to the plate.

He pops one to short that ends the inning as OSU strands some runners.

Bottom of the third on the way and still nobody has scored.

Perrin in the third faces the top of the Texas order.

That means Marlow back in the left handed box.
He grounds to secondf for a 4-3 first out.

Johnson in the righty box and turns his wrist over on a low breaker and grounds right short for two away.

Payton bats for second time agains with two outs and nobody on.

For the second time he walks to reach.
He could try to steal for the second time.

Barrera bats as Payton leads with two away.
A ground ball up the middle is flagged by the diving shortstop.
He flips the ball from his glove to the second baseman for a 6-4 force to retire the side.

Three have rolled by and and once again the zero's get a workout on the Disch scoreboard.

French out for his fourth inning of work faces Krietemeier batting lefty.

He grounds sharply to Marlow at second and it's another quick out one.

Green goes ditto and agains Marlow makes the play for two away.

Fish, with two down bats right handed with no base runers and grounds to third for another perfect inning for French.

The heavy sinker is working so far and to the bottom of four nobody has tallied.

Perrin comes back out for the fourth to face Hinojosa.

He shoots a grounder up the middle past the shortstop for a lead off single.

That should put the bunting game into action for Shaw.
He deadens a bunt back to the hill that goes 1-3 for the sac.

HInojosa is now at second for Gurwitz with one down.

The right handed hitter with yet another rbi chance for the Horns and he lines another single to right.

Hinojosa had to stop at third and it puts runners on the corneres with one down.

Clemens has a chance to plate a run in several different ways as he stands in left handed.
The bunt, a fly ball, some kind of contact is essential.
Instead he walks once more to load the bases.

That means for the second straight time Felts bats with one out and the bases loaded. I think we all know what happened that last time.

So after a chat with Augie, as the coach came out to talk to the pitcher, he steps in right handed.

This time a ground ball goes to short and the throw is a bit off line to second and it is just a 6-4 force as a run scores.

Texas leads 1-0.

Marlow brings back the top of the order with runners on the corners with two down.

A ground ball to second retires the side.

After some opportunities Texas does finall get the first score of the game and leads 1-0 after four innings.

,

Arakawa leads off the fifth against Frech with his now 1-0 lead.

The lefty batter for the second time flies to Johnson in left for one away.

Costello steps in right handed.
He walkls on four pitches for a one out runner.

Williams, another of the many lefty Cowboy batters steps in with one on.

The count runs full and the runners goes.
A ground ball goes up the middle and Marlow gets to it and backhands it and flips it from his glove for an out and then the relay is well off line.

So the 6-4 force makes it two down with one on.

A 2-0 count brings Skip to the mound as French has struggled with command this inning.

He then gains command and K's him swinging on a low slider to retire the side.

Halway through the opening game of the series and Texas leads 1-0.

Perrin still pitches as the Texas fifth starts with Johnson batting.

He bats right handed and works a full count.
He fists a slow roller to short and the shorstop charges and throws and nips the speedy Johnson at first for one down.

Payton bats with one down.
Another full count for Paytoi and another walk, his third.

He is aboard once more and agains he goes and again he makes it safely.

That means Barrera bats yet again with Payton in scoring position.
He lines a single to left and Payton is held at third.

Runners on the corners for Hinojosas as Texas continues to put multiple men on base.

One down as he steps in right handed.
He is hit by an inside pitch to load the bases yet again.

The pitching coach is back out again and that is all for Perrin who certainly didn' have it tonight and is lucky to have only given up a run so far.

Even the new OSU pitcher is named Vince as the commercial for LHN runs it's mulitiple Vince children at school.

He's right handed Vince Wheeland who has good stats on the season.

He faces Shaw with the bases loaded and one down.

He lines a pitch to Wheeland who flips to first for a double play to retire the side.

That thwarts yet another Horn rally.

After five played Texas leads 1-0.

Saxon as the top of the order is back leads off the sixth with a walk.

That puts the lead man on for Walton batting lefty.
He bunts it back to French for a sac.

One down with Saxton in scoring position for Krietemeier batting lefty.

He flies out to Shaw in right for two down.

Green bats lefty with Saxton still at second and two away.
A fly ball down the line in left is run down by Johnson to retire the side as the threat is gone.

We go to the bottom of the sixth and Texas clings to a 1-0 lead.

The right hander Wheeland starts his first full inning of work as the Texas sixth starts with Gurwitz batting with two hits on the game.

This time he grounds to short for a 6-3 lead out.

Clemens bats lefty with one down.
He walks again and is on first for Felts.

He is the DH and the right hander bats with the bases not loaded for a change.

Clemens does lead from first with one away.

Felts sends another gound ball this time to third for a 5-4 force for two away as the relay was late.

Marlow once again brings the top of the Horn order with two down.

He grounds for a second time in a row to second to retire the side.

Six innings in the books as Texas keeps a 1-0 advantage.

We have a new pitcher for Texas as French is down with six shutout innings.

Chad Hollingsworth, the tall lanky right hander faces Fish as his first batter of the night.

He drives a fly ball to the track in left field that Johnson backs up on and makes the catch for one down.

Arakawa bats lefty and grounds to Gurwitz at third and the 5-3 out is two away.

Costello bats right with two down and the bases clean.
He slices a fly ball down the right field line that Shaw squeezes just in fair territory to retire the side in order.

Stretch time in Austin and Texas still has a 1-0 lead.

Wheeland back to the hill for OSU faces Johnson as the Horn seventh starts.

He lines one to left directly to the left fielder for one away..

Payton bats again with three walks in three attempts.
He also has stolen two bags.
Yet another full count for Payton, but this time he pops one up foul behind the plate and the catcher after being told by the pitcher where it is makes a basket catch for two away.

Barrera up with two down grounds to third to retire the side in order for Texas.

So seven now played and the Texas 1-0 lead still stands.

Hollingsworth starts the eighth against Williams batting left handed.

He K's swinging at a high fast ball for one away.

McConaughy bats righty with one down.
His check swing results in a roller to first taken to the bag by Clemens for two away.

Saxon, at the top of the order and possesses one of the better "porn staches" in college baseball bats left handed.
Not that I would know anything about that of course.

He grounds also to first and Clemens once again takes to the bag to retire the side in order.

Bottom of eight comes with Texas ahead 1-0.

Wheeland faces Hinojosa in the eighth batting righty.

He lines a lead off single to left.

Shaw is up to bunt no doubt and he does and the 1-3 sac sends C.J. to second.

One down as Gurwitz bats with Hinojosa at second.
He grounds a single through the hole on the left side for his third hit.

Hinojosa is sent and the throw is off line and he scores. It might have been different with an accurate throw.

Texas leads now 2-0.

Gurwitz moved to second on the throw.

Clemens bats with one down and still a man in scoring position.
He lines a rope to right center, but the centerfielder runs it down for two away.

Felts, who has batted with men on all night is up again in that scenario.
This time he gets it done with a liner to right center for a single to make it 3-0 Texas as the Horns make this easier in the ninth for whoever pitches.

Marlow comes back up one more time and he flies to center and the centerfielder makes the catch over the shoulder to retire the side.

Texas tacks on two big insurance runs and now leads 3-0 going to the ninth.

Walton bats lefty and faces Hollingsworth still on the mound for Texas.

He grounds the second hit of the night for OSU into left through the hole.

Krietemeier also from the left side bats with one on and nobody out.

He K's swinging on a high heater for one down.

Green bats lefty and sends a hard grounder to Clemens who goes to second for one and the relay is just late.

The 3-6 force is two away with one on.

Fish bats and he K's swinging to end the game.

Texas gets a sorely needed win by the score of 3-0.

It was the usual "MO" for Texas as air tight pitching by French and Hollingsworth held down a hot hitting OSU club.

There was the usual very good fielding and enough offense to get the job done.

Still need at least one more for a successfull weekend and that starts tomorrow with Peters on the mound.

Point I was trying to make was, if you decide to talk smack to our players running down the firstbase line,
don't be surprised if you get it thrown back at you.

But I hear ya. Thought I was just making a statement, but can see how that could hurt feelings.
