I guess I have been out of the coaching rumor loop for a while. Why is everyone on here so high on this guy? This is a serious question, not a joke.

He was the DLine coach at USC in 2004 and spent the last three seasons as head coach for Ole Miss. Largely responsible for USC's great classes that led to their 2004 Championship. Fantastic recruiter and an outstanding DLine coach.

If he and Muschamp were on the sidelines at Texas, there is no doubt that it would be CRAZY good.

"It was a winter wonderland of college coaches in Anaheim, where the 85th convention of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) has recently ended.

Coaches from all levels of the game -- from BCS big wig to high school honcho -- gathered for professional development and to discuss issues that impact their profession.

...expect former Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron to land somewhere. I had a chance to eat lunch with him and got the feeling something will break for him soon.

"There's always a lot going on out here," says Orgeron. "It's a great way to get better at your job -- and also to reconnect with people."

Would just like to take credit as the first person to suggest Orgeron months ago before Akina was even demoted...your welcome. If we do lose another coordinator, he is our freakin' man. USC's defense was steel and his recruiting would be a huge help...plus he has head coaching, and, above all, winning experience.

Who are yall saying we don't want him? He would be a great addition to our staff. However, I dont see anyone going from head coach to position coach. Mack is pretty good at making up titles though, so maybe we could convince him. I'd love to see some Texas WILD BOYS!

He's getting $675,000 a year for the next two years out of Ole Miss, so he wouldn't be hurting if he "only" made $200K or so as a position coach here.

I can see him taking a position coach job to reestablish himself in the coaching world.

If Mack hires Orgeron, he'll be hiring him because the guy's a very good position coach and recruiter. Most of his legal problems are pretty far behind him, and Mack's a forgiving sort of person anyway. Check out his track record as a coach and recruter at the U and at USC, and it's obvious he knows his stuff, and would be a fit here, IF an opening comes up. That's why some of us are high on Orgeron.

How much he would be paid is irrelevant because whatever the amount is would be substracted from the $600k Ole Miss is obligated to pay him over the next two years.

Oregeron is a tireless recruiter, a terrible head-coach and probably a suspect coordinator. (He had never been a coordinator prior to being hired by Ole Miss).

As far as his past, he has been able to put that behind him and it should not be an issue today. He appears to be a solid family man now.

All I can say is that if had stayed at Ole Miss several current players would have transferred.

I just have one thing to say about the possibility of hiring Coach Orgeron..... yoy yoy yoy yoy yoooy yoooy yoooy yoooy FOOTBALL!!
