Orange vs. White World Series Game 1

New team, new ball, but the same old result.

The Orange team wins 1-0 in a seven inning game. The only run scores on a Hinojosa home run in the top of the first to right on an outside fastball that rode a strong wind and the new ball distance to clear the fence. Reminded me of the 1-0 game in Omaha.

Freshman pitchers, pitchers that were position players, and of course the proven veteran hurlers all did well. This pitching staff is so talented and deep that you hardly noticed the new ball. You know this staff is good when the talk is that Parker French may be transitioned to be the closer.

One highlight was freshman catcher Cantu throwing out Ben Johnson from his knees on a steal attempt. He has a great arm and we have two really good young catchers now.

So it still looks like the same story. If this team could just be an average hitting team they could be back home in Omaha again this year.

Cheer up Longhorn hitters this may well be the best pitching staff you face all season and in the end they are on your side!

Attended the game, and we were in awe of that throw by Cantu. It was a laser that appeared to never rise above the pitcher's belt level. Ben Johnson is arguably the Horns fastest runner, correct?
And a couple of batted balls did carry better than expected, which might have been due to the new ball design.
Other than those things, impressive pitching all around.
Each pitcher, several of whom were freshmen, impressed one way or another.
