One Final Suggestion

We have two conference series left at home starting tonight with KSU and then the final one at TCU in a couple of weeks.

The starting line up has been changed just about every way imaginable as far as position players and the DH is concerned with little to no effect.

So I offer this change in the pitching rotation. I have thought about this for several weeks and waited to make sure this was a pattern and not just a trend.

For many years Texas and most other schools have used their most effective starter on Friday night to try to get off to a winning start to the series and build some confidence and momentum.

I think we all know now that Peters is now that dominant pitcher of the starters. French has not been the same since his injury last season and tweaking it again this year. He is also now battling with tendinitis in his pitching arm. That will not improve and probably gets worse till he can shut it down for awhile.

That is not to say that French has pitched badly, but it's obvious that Peters is better at this point and has been for several weeks.

So why not start Peters on Friday night and try to get a win and as mentioned before attempt to build some confidence and momentum.

Everything ese has been tried with the line up. So why not this? It's not like we have a lot to lose at this point and I think it's just a solid move.

Of course I don't think this will be done by our coaches for whatever reason, but it's just another one of my suggestions that I see and think about and finally decided to post.

Yes, I know even with this move that we will still have to score a run or maybe two to win.

Pitching is not the problem. I can see saving an ace for Sunday after our wrecking crew of batters have finally crushed the opposing teams bullpen.

Even one or two more runs per game and our pitching staff would be all conference.

But we don't have that type of hitting and that is exactly the point. You have to do the best with what you do have.

I am not talking about the future. I am talking about right now. The hitting problem can't be solved this year. I am trying to optimize what we do now to get the most out of what we have and maybe win a few more games than what we have been doing.

Such as winning a conference series. Your telling this to the person that started talking about the hitting problem three years ago.

It's an option that hasn't been tried. Could it possilby make things any worse at this point? The tone for a series can many times be set in that Friday game and that is the point here. As I said before that is why Texas and most other schools start their ace on Friday.

I dunno, the perfect cap to this season would be our friday ace throwing a no hitter and having Texas lose 1-0.

Let's face it nothing is going to save this season. I think we all know that.

As sad as it is I am trying to find a way to not finish last in a weak conference. The only way can do that is for other teams to beat Tech for us while we win a couple or if we somehow maybe swept TCU and moved past them.

I think this is our best shot against KSU at home. They have one of the best hitting teams in the country, but bad pitching.

So if we can hold them down on offense, just maybe we can scratch out enough runs to win. It's just hard to beleive we are talking in such terms about a Texas baseball team. The idea that we could lose every conference series with the conference this bad and finish last is hard to grasp.
