interviews OkSt coach (prior to les miles) almost daily. today he discussed tex and ou. he said ou is clearly a "cut above" other schools in b12. On tex he said what he doesn't see is the difference making players they have always had in the past (he named derrick johnson, roy williams). went on to say tex is certainly not the 5th best team in the country...

Pat Jones is a decent guy. I never thought he was much of a coach but he was probably the most successful coach aggie lite ever had. He coached Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas, hired err recruited Hart Lee Dykes, got caught and left for the NFL.

He hates OU so I'm sure he would rather swallow a turd than say something good about them unless he felt that way. As a rule he seems to be complimentary about Texas.

Honestly though who are Texas' big hitters with the ball besides Colt McCoy? I keep thinking a few will step into that role but I have not seen it yet.

I don't care for Pat Jones much but at the point he said it I think it is a valid concern for Texas.
 
You know what, you're right. We dont have a single difference maker besides Colt on either side of the ball. Only now do I finally realize and accept that we have no shot on teneleven. I am now hoping for another hurricane.

I actually agree with him. Doesn't mean we can't beat OU or win every game this year though.

The 4 teams we have played don't amount to much. Our team is a little difficult to evaluate at this point.
 
I agree with him. We probably won't win the national title this year, so what does it matter if we are 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc... My guess is we'll end the season somewhere between 7th and 11th. Just enjoy the ride. It should be a fun season to be a college football fan.
 
I heard his statement and he wasn't saying Texas sucks or anything like that. He was saying that OU was a step ahead of everyone else in the Big 12 at this point.

At this point I think it would be hard to disagree with that statement. There are still more games left to be played than have been played so we will just have to wait and see how things evolve.

That is the beauty of college football nothing ever stays the same for long. It is interesting every single year.

I think we have two other big time playmakers on Offense. Shipley and Quan.

I mean, someone has to be catching those balls right?

And to be honest, the year we won the title everyone said it was VY and 21 average players. It wasnt true then, I dont think its true now.
 
This Texas team has some things in common with the tOSU team that won it all. I'm not saying the 'horns are as good, but I can see them winning a bunch of close games in a workmanlike fashion. I think UT is very solid in the trenches -- OU gets the nod on the offensive line -- and we have a lot of young talent elsewhere. Colt McCoy isn't going to stand head and shoulders above Sam Bradford, but he doesn't have to. He has to excel against OU's defense, which is probably their weak link. By 10/11, Texas might actually have the stronger defense. (I'm not holding my breath, but it's clear Coach Muschamp is starting to have an effect on that side of the ball.)

Right now, I'd definitely give the nod to OU. I think Texas is on the steep part of the learning curve, though, and they may be a tough opponent for OU in a couple of weeks.
 
Pat Jones was just echoing what most other analysts are saying and writing -- and he's agreeing with many people on this board. Right now, Texas is widely perceived as a team with a great quarterback and several question marks.


But all the media narratives won't matter inside the Cotton Bowl if both teams get to the fairgrounds undefeated.


If it's a top 5 matchup, the RRS will be an electric atmoshphere...even more so than usual. With a sleek new look and a lot more fans, both sides will be confident and hopeful, and the game will probably swing on emotions that result from big plays, which could easily go either way. So...same ole same ole...
 
Pat Jones is entitled to his opinion and remember his audience. His statement about OU is actually more questionable than about Texas. OU has shown they can beat up on 2 teams who would struggle to win a Big XII game ever, one of the weakest teams in the weakest conference (Washington) and a team that would struggle to play 500 in the Big XII (TCU). With that schedule, OU should be averaging 600+ yards and 70+ points if they are to be considered head and shoulders above everyone else in the Big XII.

Texas has nothing to prove to anyone. If Texas is undefeated on December 1 we can shoot everyone the bird and tell them to kiss our asses. If not no one was expecting anything anyway.
 
Our offesive MVPs so far this season?

1. Colt
2. Offensive Line

The pass protection given to Colt this season has been exceptional. They've played well against blitz happy teams (UTEP, Rice) that had absolutely nothing to lose and have done well.

Offensive line is the reason our offense will keep us in every game we play this year.
 
My bad. Didn't mean the post to come off as questioning the UT team. Any OU fan will tell you 22 guys playing well together is just as dangerous as a team full of NFL talent. See 2000. Not the most indvidually talented team OU has had, but possibly still the best.

My schedule and UT being on TV have not coordinated this year very well.

I was more asking which young db's or recievers are showing up.

After watching playmakers like Huff & Vasher and guys like J Charles/ Sweed/Finley line up for you guys I assume you are going to have playmakers. Maybe I am wrong in my limited evaluation, but your rb's kind of suprised me. Colt does look like your best threat and its a long season for a QB not built like VY to make it.

Now watch one of the cats go Quentin Griffin on us this year.

Closest comparison is the Patriots during any of the years they won the Superbowl. They had an ace at QB, a good defense and no superstars.

That's us.

Except we don't have a ******** at head coach like the Patriots do.
 
I believe everything the 50-IQ Einsteins from okieville have to say.

The mere fact that they live in that state (and that they are partial to that nationally renowned school) demonstrates what incredible judgment and insight they all have . . .
