Oklahoma game - 1/11/22 at 7:30 pm CST

I bet Beard had some pointed words to the team about toughness and playing tough after the OSU debacle. We’re playing real tough tonight.

The Sooners showed up and played like they just arrived at The Drum—straight after drinking way too many beers and Margaritas at a pre-game happy hour at Iron Cactus or something…

Not a political statement but I see few wearing masks at FEC (<10%?).

Horns Win!!!

66-52

Good D against a sloppy, confused, lost, and drunk-looking Sooner squad. Still a good conference win. And against a team that received votes for the Top 25. We needed this.

Bishop is my player of the game. Jones got 22 pts, but Bishop shut down OU’s star player and played good O down low as well.

OU was relentless on the boards, but not very accurate shooting, and we were usually able to find holes in their defense whether by driving, cutting, or passing. Nice win.

Smart coached teams always peaked early in season and never improved.

Beard coached teams continued to improve.
And peaked toward the end of the season.

I hope it is the case this year.

This^^^ is why Beard coached teams win in March. His offense moves constantly, rather than standing around (like Smart’s) as the shot clock winds down. Plus Beard’s teams almost always create more turnovers.

We need to stop giving up tons of offensive rebounds, but Beard is a bad dude. We got the right man, just not sure how soon we’ll take off.

Meanwhile, Marquette sits at 11-6 overall, 3-3 in the Big East. I'd say we have already taken off from where we would have been without the coaching change. We just haven't rocketed into the stratosphere yet.

Texas and Marquette are similar in that neither team can beat a top 25 team. They've just played a few more than us.

Edit: I take that back, they've beaten two top 25 teams and we haven't.
