OKC stuns Mavs in opener

Not sure how that ball went in. It was slightly off to the left, hits front rim, and bounces in. Those are some really soft rims. Rims in my gym, that shot has absolutely no chance. Marion played that as well as can be played and then some.

Mavs got a few calls down the stretch though. One where Dirk splits the double team and gets a phantom call so they had their share of good fortune. Durant won't shoot that poorly again. Thunder in 5.

Which Dirk play down the stretch are you talking about? The only FTs I remember him shooting late were an and-1 when he went up and under to avoid getting blocked (which wasn't splitting a double team), and the Mavs' final two points of the game where Hardin very obviously hacked his arm.

Stat, I'm a Mavs fan as you know. Dirk got to the line 2 other times down the stretch and made all 4 free throws. Both times he split a double team. One he was fouled, other was ticky tack.

I agree the foul on Dirk was crap, but he should have just let him go at that point. Mavs got that lead by getting steals, and then gave it up by not taking care of the ball. Strange ending, but damn if you look at that Durant shot, I still can't figure out how it went it. It was left of center, hits the rim, and moves to the center and drops in. I mean the shot was from the middle of the court, so why does it go in in the first place. I know I never get that bounce. Marion played great D on that last play. It was a total prayer that sometimes you get the breaks on.

That's sadly how basketball works ... stars get more calls. And it's not just a pro thing b/c Durant got some of that at Texas too.

Yet another epic game is going down to the wire ... this should be a great series no matter who ends up winning. In fact, it could be a pretty good series even if it's over in 4 or 5 games.

From what I saw of the game, it was indeed another good one. On the positive side (as a 'Horns fan), I'm glad to see a KD-led team doing well. On the downside (from the Mavs fan's perspective), it sure looks like the Mavs have reverted to pre-championship form: way too many jump shots, not much of an inside game, relying on Dirk to carry the load, and Terry talking a big game but failing to follow through at crunch time. I've seen this movie before and I do not like the way it ends.

Another close game. Neither team is shooting great from the field but the Thunder have gutted out 2 close tough wins. That is going to help their confidence going forward.

Dirk gets all the calls too. NBA officiating is an absolute joke. The officials make calls based upon the time left in the game, which players are involved, if they can find their whistle on a certain play, whether they want to be a villian or cheered by the crowd and lastly if a player got hit to their satisfaction on the particular position on the court (regardless of if an advantage was gained by a player arising out of the contact). It makes the game unwatchable at time.

The difference between the NBA and MLB / NFL officiating is the NBA game is called purely for entainment whereas MLB & NFL are tighter b/c the players are the best in the world - i.e. tighter strike zone for pitchers and receivers having the get 2 feet in bounds for a reception.

NBA you get to take as many steps as your want, carry the ball, change pivot feet, hold, grab, slap and bump all you want unless the official deems the slap occurred
against a star player.

The difference between the teams is basically just that Terry missed a makeable shot (doesn't really mean he choked, plenty of good shooters miss plenty of threes) and Durant hit a very tough shot.

That is the difference in the games, not the teams. The series may just be getting started now that it is back in Dallas and I expect both teams to start shooting better.

While the endings were suspenseful in both games, I don't know that I would call it "stunning" when a #2 seed defeats a #7 seed at home. The 2012 Thunder are head-and-shoulders better than the 2012 Mavs.

PFD are you trying to argue just for the sake of having something to argue about? It's pretty obvious what Third Coast was referring to. Dallas looked like they were going to win the game, forced OKC into a low-probability shot, and so it was a bit stunning that the ball went through the hoop and Dallas lost.

As I've stated many times, I'm a die hard Spurs fan, but I'm really looking forward to the game tonight. I would really like to see the Mavs make this series interesting and I hope KD has a great game.

He was going to command a contract on the free market that Cuban wasn't willing to deal for, especially with Barea also leaving.
