Ohio State Game

Good one. Although the food is certainly better than the Army or the Marines. Maybe the Air Force in their country club living quarters eat better ...?

Hmmm, a few things I can think of:

The band Pretenders were from Ohio.

LEGENDARY golfer Jack Nicklaus is from Ohio.

Youngstown OH used to be a great steel town but has been sadly ignored and is a dump.

President Ulysess Grant was from Ohio.

Cleveland Browns used to dominate the NFL. They have sucked for 50 years.

U. Mich. - something to give Ohio State fans something to focus on and HATE 365 days of the years, besides their lives.

Oh, sorry, Chop post said Ohio good for something!?
Joe Walsh is from Ohio. There might be some pretty forest left somewhere in Ohio.

My mom lived in Cleveland a few years back. She calls it the dark ages. Winter was a monster that demoralized her completely as it approached. On one visit up there, me and a friend of my brothers who joined us went to see The Go Go's. That was an excellent show. I was a bit surprised. Not because they were girls (I saw Pat Benatar back in 1984 or thereabout and let me tell you, that was a rock show) but because I thought they were a bit light-weight for an old rock and roll guy like me. But they brought it. The opening band did the usual and said, "Good night Detroit!" Lots of boos but the locals were probably used to that sort of thing. We met some local blue collar girls who showed us around an entertainment district called The Flats. We were having a good time and I was my usual, "Fast talking Texan" self (on another trip up to Milwaukee, I was talking to a girl and some dude said, "Why are you talking to that fast talking Texan?" He worked with her. It was a seminar their company was putting on and we went to happy hour). The girls then turned on us. They decided we weren't impressed with them (my hunch anyway) and started accusing us of having girl friends back home and that we were up to no good. I laughed because I didn't have a girl friend back home (I was coming off a divorce and was on a hiatus from love) and I wasn't up to no good because I wasn't hitting on them. They finally dumped us and we had a good laugh about that.

Good thing the game is at Jerry World with a roof and not the Cotton Bowl.

Remember the U Houston vs. Notre Dame ice bowl in the Cotton Bowl ? Think it was Jan. 1, 1979.
Watching the DFW weather now. Wintry mix expected beginning early am Thursday. Possibly 2-5 inches in spots. Turning to rain late Thursday afternoon.
Friday will be dry and mostly clear. Above freezing. If you are driving to DFW on Friday from the South, west or Southeast you should be good. But be safe, drive with caution and use your good Longhorn Brain. :)

Along with jorts!

I had a boss back in my consulting days who lived in Dublin, just north of Columbus. I used to go there several times a year. If I flew in after 8 pm, it wasn’t easy to find a good meal. There was a terrible Mexican place near where the president of the consulting firm lived, and it was one of the only places open late. I ended up eating there a few times simply because there weren’t many other options.

Culturally, Columbus always felt to me like a very watered-down version of Austin — kind of lacking the vibrancy or creative spark. Just my take, though!

For fun, I trolled a bragadocious OSU dude last night. It was fun. He was talking about how they were going to run up the score on Texas so I modestly mentioned losing to Michigan so if Michigan can beat them anyone can. He came back accusing Michigan of cheating to win so I reminded him of losing to Michigan over and over and over which really pissed him off. For some reason he thought I was a Michigan fan so he laughed at me saying "well good for you, where will y'all be playing this week?".

My response was, "Lol, "Y'all" will be playing in the cotton bowl kicking OSU's *** just like it did in Ann Arbor completely dismantling the Michigan team that you couldn't beat".

There was no response. :hookem:

0930 - The weather forecast for DFW has changed a little. Something is coming down now and will continue throughout the day. The change (as of 0830) is heavy snow tonight rather than the previously reported snow.

In other words, the ou educated weathermen do not have a clue other than it isn't 80 degrees and sunshine.

They've predicted 2 to 3 inches for DeSoto and Red Oak. We had some sleet this morning and now just cold drizzle/mix.

Ohio seems to me to be a bit on the "bland" side. However, one interesting/quirky thing they have in N.E. Ohio is a belt of descendants of Eastern Europeans that extends into Western Pennsylvania. Interesting sub-culture. I've known a few of them, who call themselves "Rusyn" or "Roosin" (not Russian, but something pretty close).

And the Polish belt extends from Buffalo through Erie to Cleveland an on to Detroit and Chicago. Pierogies can be delicious, although I associate that food more with Detroit than Ohio. Same with "poochkies" served right before Lent. The young women tend to be beautiful blonds, but they can really pack on some pounds as they age.

FYI - I live in SW Arlington, about two miles north of I-20 (Just north of Martin HS). It's now turned to snow here, and starting to accumulate on the roads. According to Channel 5 weather report earlier this morning, it was already accumulating in downtown Dallas (near I-30), and points north (Denton, McKinney, etc.) are piling up with snow. South of us is a mix.
