Official golf course review 2004

Flintrock Falls 8/28:

I played this course for $34 because of a deal on golf512.com. It was certainly worth that, but I don't think it's worth the rack rate.

This is an beuatiful couse, but they aerated the greens recently and they are still covered in sand

This made them very quick, but not entirely true.

Pace of play was great. Folks let us play through, and two of us got around in 3hrs.

Go back when the greens aren't aerated. They are normally very fast and very true. I love that course.

But no, it's not worth the standard $$$. But up to $50 on 512, you bet.

Played out at Star Ranch on saturday, 10.16. Course is in fantastic shape. The greens are slighty grainy, and could be faster, but very green and very true. With an emailed coupon I had, total cost was $36 at 11am. Can't beat it with a stick. Plus, they ran a lunch buffet for $6, which included a sandwich after the round.

Got a chance yesterday to play Lakecliff, which is a private course (but they look to be begging for members, so I bet if you just call and act interested, you could get on) out near Barton Creek Lakeside. Greens are the best I've seen in Austin. Fast, smooth and very receptive. Course is only a year or so old, but it's in very good condition. Neat course, and I didn't even know it existed until a few months ago.

Chitwood,

agree on Lakecliff. The best greens I have played on. They have a great membership offer of about 4K total for the year. I would be all over it if it did not take me 45+ minutes to get out there.

Another good value, Delaware Springs in Burnet.

Teravista is in the best shape it has been in ever.

How is the game chitwood? Unpainted?

I agree on Teravista. Played there last Thursday morning. Greens were OUTSTANDING. Wind was about the worst I've ever played in though, truly brutal. Of course I step off of 18 and the wind just stops. Blech.

First time I had played in a few weeks...played poooorly on the front and shot 3 over on the back with -1 for the last 5 holes.

I've got some cheap golf out at Colovista. Capn, niner and chitwood....we need to get a foursome out there soon (or wherever). I am in Austin all next week if you guys can play.

I have family coming in Tuesday morning. Monday and Tuesday probably too tough for me this week. I will be playing Wednesday with my brother-in-law and others and all are welcome. Thursday morning it lookd like Star Ranch and then Saturday somewhere.

BTW, stay away from Avery for now. We were supposed to play Friday 11/19 and they had 9 holes flooded.

Sorry I haven't replied, been on family vacation to Isla Mujeres, Mexico and just got back on Thanksgiving. I might not be able to play for a while, need to bill some hours after vacation, but if you guys put together a time, let me know, I'll see what I can do.

As far as my game, haven't been able to play much with the new baby, but I'm not hitting it too bad. Just reshafted my driver and 3 wood based on one of those launch monitors/swing analysis things, and it seems to have helped.

As for Lakecliff, I just got a random invite in the mail to come play for free. Based on how empty it looked, if you just called and asked, I bet they'd invite you out.

My semi-monthly plug for Bluebonnet Hill Gc ... consistently excellent greens. Played last weekend - out in 42, in in 35. Playing again this weekend ...
