Anyone guess who TEXAS will hold offers for? Dontae Williams, Darius White, Jake Matthews, Reggie Wilson, Jackson Jeffcoat, Corey Nelson, Adrian White? I'm guessing that TEXAS only has 5 or 6 more scholarships left.Quarterback - Committed 2, doneQB (2) Connor Wood, Case McCoyRunning back – Committed 1, take the next one that steps up:RB (2) Traylon Shead, Dontae Williams, Lache Seastrunk, Princeton Collins and DJ Jones

One thing that's nice about getting so many commitments early is it puts pressure on the rest of the kids who hold offers. If you don't step to the dish there is someone else who wants your spot who wants to go to Texas.

It really separates the kids who have a passion for Texas football v. the kids who just want the sweetest deal with the most hunnies or whatever.

As long as it doesn't backfire by missing out on some of the top talent, I am okay with it.

They are getting, it appears, what they want.

I bet we take one more DT, 2 more LB, and 3 more WR.

Seastrunk, Jeffcoat and Wilson are gone, IMO. LSU, USC and OU, respectively.
I think SC gets Matthews too.

Quite a few of the guys you have on your position list with take the next one who steps up do not have offers. And I cannot imagine us not taking both Wilson and Jeffcoat at DE if they both wanted to commit. It is becoming clear 2010 will be one of our largest classes of the last few years.

I am curious about which recruits holding offers will have them left open Indefinitely and which are going to get a deadline. I don't think we will make offers to some of our secondary targets unless we move on at some positions and some of those secondary targets are going to commit elsewhere.

I'm afraid I agree with you orangebones, Seastrunk and Jeffcoat ships have sailed. But I think TEXAS still has a chance with Matthews and Wilson. I'll tell you who I really want and think TEXAS has a chance with the last seven scholorships.

Reggie Wilson DE
Jake Matthews OL
Corey Nelson LB
Dontae Williams RB
Evan Washington OL
Adrian White DB
Darius White WR

That would make 24 in the class and be in the top 3 in the nation.

i have to disagree. i think we have a fighting chance for matthews and jeffcoat, seastrunk and wilson a bit less at this point (and we know things change day to day). corey nelson you can scratch off the list.. we have NO chance. washington only if matthews commits to usc or something.. and even then i'm not sure.

Colt what happened with Corey Nelson? I was really hoping TEXAS could get him. I agree with you on Matthews and Washington, TEXAS will get one or the other. How did TEXAS get back in with Jeffcoat?

it doesn't sound like nelson's been that interested. he was asked about top schools recently, and notably didn't mention UT. i think that ship has sailed. jeffcoat on the other hand has kept things to the vest. i think the initial rumors of him liking ou and usc were a bit overblown (may be some truth, but not the whole story). chances still aren't fantastic, but not as bad as some have said.

A quick question for you Colt...if Seastrunk really is Baton Rouge bound, and with us needing one more back, who do you see as the best possibility for us?

Speedway, you think the door is closed on Darius White/Cobbs/Reed?

I really hope that is not the case.

Hoping for...
Lache
Adrian White
Darius White
Reed
Cobbs
Hicks
Jeffcoat

haven't seen too much film outside of the top tier rbs in texas. i think dontae williams would be an ideal combo (after seastrunk) with shead, but there are rumblings on grades (which may or may not be true). i think the staff may end up taking a guy like princeton collins if the seastrunk situation does not look good.

i think with seastrunk, he's got a lot pulling him multiple ways. in the end, i think it's gonna be depth charts and his general comfort with the program that win out. our coaches can handle the comfort part, but let's look at lsu's depth chart:
2009 commits: Michael Ford #7 RB Rivals #59 overall; 2008 commits: None at RB; 2007 commits: None.
Even though UT does not appear to have a feature back on campus yet (we'll see about Whaley), the depth chart clearly favors LSU.. though with one big note.. Bryce Brown. If Miles somehow gets this headcase (but stud RB) in as a late 2009 commit, I think that has to bode well for us.

The other story of course is USC, who like LSU, has not recruited RB as hard in recent years, after the ridiculous backlog of talent they had for a few years straight:
2009 commits: none; 2008 commits: 3 star Curtis McNeal; 2007 commits 5 stars McKnight and Marc Tyler, not to mention Broderick Green out of AR

Horns All Day,

I'm sure It all depends on how many Mack will take, is it 24, 25 or 26? The most Brown has ever signed is 28. Colt McVince probably has better info on this than I do. But I bet TEXAS is done at wide receiver with John Harris, Chris Jones, Ross Apo and Adrian Phillips (Ath). Again, depending on numbers Brown may make room for Darius White or another, I hope so.

I’ve thought for a long time Seastrunk is going elsewhere so I’ve forgotten about him. Same with Reed, Cobbs, and Hicks, they are way off long, long shots. I thought the Jeffcoat ship had sailed too but Colt McVince has said otherwise above, I hope he is right.

The others I think this staff is still going hard after are Dontae Williams, Adrian White, Jake Matthews, Reggie Wilson and may be Shaun Lewis.

If you add jeffcoat to that list it makes 25. How many will Mack take? I do not know.

Looking back at the 2009 recruiting class, 17 of the 20 recruits who ultimately signed football LOI's had verbally committed to UT by the end of March 2008.

The 5 star players mostly being discussed were McFarland, Kinnard, Brent, Loston, Kirkpatric and J. Jones, none of whom signed with UT.

The remaining recruits signed were not being discussed in late March 2008 but they proved to be great additions, DT's Howell and Johnson in May 2008 (track scholarship Goodwin in June) and then DE Mims, not until January 2009.

oldhippie is right. this is the kind of start we've had recently... just at a more rapid pace. get the #5-20 guys locked in, and then play the waiting game for the top 5, most of which do not end up commiting. i don't think we're done withe the top tier, and to address the above concerns about more WR, i do think we stand an excellent shot at D White. if Cobbs ever can get down here we'll be in the thick of it at least. I don't see Reed as a likely commit, unless something strange happens with him and LSU. that said, if he and Seastrunk don't what they are seeing at LSU regarding depth chart or whatever, we could still get this combo, which would be outstanding.

Seems like Nelson is OU bound. LSU signed a stud RB does that open Seastrunk back up? Jeffcoat's mom likes Mack but his dad is a Norton guy.

Ross Apo is a Mormon and expected to go on mission so his 'ship won't be in the mix for a couple of years. I expect Texas takes another WR.

I think Mormon men have to be 19 to go on their mission. Not sure his age, but maybe he would go after his frosh year if he does.

are there special rules about mormon missions, or does the kid lose 2 years of eligibility (one presumably a redshirt) if he does the mission after starting school?

We probably have room for another four commits. Depending on if we have any defections. This is a very solid class so far and it meshes well with our projected needs.

You have to be 19 to go on an LDS Mission. They do nnot take any time off your five years to play four. That's why BYU has so many 24/25 year old Srs.

It wouldn't shock me to see us go over 25. Over-signing is a nascent trend, much like early commitments were back in 1998 when Mack took over. I remember the Ags in particular talked at length about how that would never work.

Applewhite and Muschamp have had up-close looks at how to go about executing such tactics.

LISD149: Tell us who does not have an offer? Seriously I really want to know.

I do not believe these guys have offers or never had offers if we are not taking any more at their position:

RB: Dontae Williams, Princeton Collins and DJ Jones.

WR: DeAndrew White, Chris Hawkins, DeAndre Perry, Eddie Johnson, Quentin Parks

TE: Nate Askew

OL: Evan Washington

DE: Joseph Okafor, Clarence Lee

DT: Torrea Peterson, Cedric Steward

LB: Shaun Lewis, Rashod Favors, Kris Catlin, Earl Hines

DB: Toney Hurd, Tyler Stephenson

Ath: James Haynes, Darian Lazard, Jeremy Johnson

I think the only open offers out there now are for Jeffcoat, Wilson, Nelson, Seastrunk, D. White, A. White and Matthews. Reportedly Hicks and Cobbs have offers although they have not been on campus. Reed was offered after the first junior day according to all reports, but based on the recent commits at WR that offer may no longer be on the table.

Depending on who currently holding an offer verbals to UT, I could see the staff making offers eventually to one more running back, one more defensive end, and one more linebacker. Off of the list above, I would say Dontae Williams, Kris Catlin, and Joseph Okafor might get offers. This is just speculation by the way, not backed up by any hard facts.

Coolhorn,

I bet Dontae Williams has an offer or assurance of some sort from TEXAS; so does Darius White, Trovon Reed, Demarco Cobbs, DeAndrew White, Jake Matthews, Evan Washington, Reggie Wilson, Jackson Jeffcoat, Joseph Okafor, Jordan Hicks, Corey Nelson, Shaun Lewis, Lache Seastrunk, Adrian White, Toney Hurd, and Tyler Stephenson. Just my opinion.

in any case, the next RB, WR, OL, DE, DB and LB that steps up will end TEXAS recruiting at that position. We will all watch and see what Mack will do, Hook'em Horns.
