Obama's parting gifts to the American people

The best gun salesman in America

The U.S. government processed 27.5 million gun-related background checks in 2016, according to FBI data published this week. That marks a 20% increase compared to last year, and a 100% increase since 2008, the year Barack Obama was elected president.

The background check data, which is considered a reliable indicator of guns sales, suggest that more guns were sold during Obama’s eight years in office (157.2 million) than were sold in the previous ten years prior to his election.

Judicial Watch: New Obama Travel Costs Bring Eight-Year Total over $96 Million

"........ "President-elect Trump can immediately save taxpayers money by reforming presidential travel," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said.

"The Obamas' notorious abuse of presidential travel perks wasted military resources and stressed the Secret Service. Judicial Watch estimates that the final costs of Obama’s unnecessary vacation and political travel will well exceed $100 million."

I'll wait 4-8years for Judicial Watch's review of Trump's travel costs. Does anyone think that will happen from this partisan organization?

For me, it's impossible to say whether those travel costs are accurate or how they compare against any other POTUS. If this was coming from a less partisan organization it might carry more credibility.

I feel safe in saying that Bush didn't pend anything close to that. He hung out in Crawford at his ranch that he owned most of the time. Also I am guessing Trump won't either. He's not even taking a paycheck and he seems like he's going to work harder than any President we've ever had. King Obama spent money with no care in the world. Once Michelle didn't want to wait a couple of hours for BHO so they flew separately to Hawaii. I could understand going a day early or something, but she can't wait a couple of hours?

You do realize Trump will have spent $9M in Secret Service/Security before Melania even moves to D.C., right? That's just for Trump Tower. Of course Trump also has worked out of his home in the NY countryside and Mar-a-lago. Throw is expected trips to some of his golf courses and it's pretty easy to predict Trump will greatly outspend Obama in travel costs. Heck, his campaign billed the SS for transport of the SS agents on Trump's plan during the campaign. This is probably typical for campaigns but portraying Trump as a "bastion of frugality" isn't supported by his image or his conduct since becoming POTUS-elect.

NY countryside

Close enough. Trump's getaway is on the Trump National Golf Club in the NJ countryside, about 40 miles west of Manhattan and not far from where I live. Trump has said he plans to spend about 10 weekends a year here, and Melania plans to live here each summer.

he seems like he's going to work harder than any President we've ever had

Yes, Trump works his *** off. But he isn't going to do it holed up in the White House. Throughout the transition, he has spent a lot of time in his Manhattan office, but most weekends he has come out to New Jersey. Streams of visitors come in and streams of tweets come out, so we know he is working. Meanwhile, a small army of Secret Service agents are working around the clock to keep him safe. Bedminster Township, where Trump National is located, is complaining about its budget-busting obligation to provide backup law enforcement on a recurring basis.

Security at this level is expensive.

Security is expensive for the President and their family. That just goes without saying. The cost of business travel will probably be the same for most presidents. We're talking about vacations and travel. Trump I see staying at his own places. I don't see him charging the fed government for that since he already said he doesn't plan to take a paycheck. But do you really see him flying all over the world for vacations and Melania flying separately? He's already proven even before taking office that he's a hard worker. I don't see him taking near as many trips as Obama. Obama has traveled more than any other President in history. Check out this article showing some of the places that it cost per night. How Michelle and her mom took lots of friends on trips. Check out how much it cost just one way to Hawaii. http://www.investors.com/politics/a...n-expenses-already-exceed-70-million-dollars/

That echo chamber goes deeper than I ever imagined. I'm going to step out of this conversation as it will be impossible to ever convince you that Trump isn't the "bastion of frugality" and (insert Democrat here) isn't the "bastion of tax payer funded opulence".

Here is a poll not getting much press (go figure) -- even Politco buried it (heh)

Politico asked voters -- Trump now or more Obama?

Trump beat Obama 45% to 44%:

"The poll also shows voters evenly divided on a recent point of contention: whether they would rather have President Barack Obama continue for a third term – which is prevented by the 22nd Amendment limiting presidents to two terms — or whether they want Trump to take office this year. Forty-five percent of voters say they want Trump to serve as president for the next four years, while 44 percent want Obama to continue as commander-in-chief....."

They were a better source for much of 2016 than CNN
Indeed, I cannot recall info they published that was wrong
My Govt has lied to me
The CIA has lied to me
Do not recall Wikileaks lying to me yet

It was the Wikileaks (or their source) that committed the crime. The only reason you don't care is because it supports your agenda. Yay America!

but, but, but...the SOURCE of their information...

(never mind that it WAS all correct and WAS quite damning to a particular party)

I....The only reason you don't care is because it supports your agenda. ....

On this front, yes, I would prefer all these people were honest.
The info published by Wiki revealed the truth about them, using their own original words.
It revealed they are dishonest, petty and corrupt.
Which is what I have always said about them.
So, yes, I am glad they were exposed for what they are. And, to a lesser extent, I am glad it showed I was correct about them all along.
I dont really know if that rises to the level of a personal agenda but you can call it that if you like, I dont really care. The important thing here -- the part you usually miss -- is that they were exposed, and were not allowed back in the White House. What is not important is what you call it.

Do you seek the same level of honesty from all parties or only liberal ones?

I strongly believe conservatives make honesty and integrity a high priority much more than the Libs. You prove it by your response toward the messenger rather than the source. The Libs had the most corrupt person to ever run for office and instead of looking at their candidate, they would rather blame the Russians for the loss in the elections.

"every time Obama talks about guns, sales go up."

Count me as one of the buyers. I have never owned a weapon in my life - until 2016. Based on (a) Obama's statements and (b) fear that Hillary (who looked like a shoo-in for POTUS last spring) would be even worse, I took the plunge. My Longhorn son is a Sig-certified tech and has his FFL, so he located a very good used Sig P226 9mm for me. I keep in in my bedside nightstand with a 15-round magazine of hollow points loaded and ready to chamber a round. It never leaves my house (except to go to the range every couple months and fire a box of 50 for practice).

I sincerely hope I never have to use it for home defense - but better to be prepared. And I really did fear that Hillary would have made it extremely difficult to own a weapon.

@I35, are you suggesting that liberals and/or @Seattle Husker think that Democrats are the "bastion of frugality" and that Trump is the "bastion of tax payer funded opulence"? If not, what do you mean by "and vice versa"?
