compromise got us into this mess from both parties. we are either going to continue on this path and essentially be Europe with 10% unemployment, 1% gdp etc or we are going to make radical changes to turn this thing around. Radical meaning a fair tax (an example) type of thinking change. Othewise, get ready, because it is going to be just like it is today from here on out and there will be no turning back.
 
I disagree. what got us here, is both sides grabbing what they could for their small constituencies rather than trying to look at middle of the road answers. The current environment gives us health care legislation from Dems that will turn out to be too expensive (GOP could have negotiated to make it better instead of running away from the issue). and it gave us the run away defense budget and war spending from the GOP.

Virtually all members of congress are guilty of being more concerned about their party than the country.
 
More and more Americans are becoming disabled at an early age and are falling below the poverty line each year to quality for these entitlement programs. Nobody ever talks about these problems but they to me are the primary reason we are seeing entitlement spending increase so rapidly.
