Obama Admin. Ransoms 4 Americans for $400 million

Oh, and by the way, one of the other top stories is this article, which has a headline of "Clinton repeats debunked claim about FBI email investigation" and begins with the following sentence:

Hillary Clinton is repeating her false claim that the FBI said her statements on her use of a private email were "truthful."
I'm not saying that CNN is fair and balanced -- they aren't. But they are way closer to the middle than MSNBC on the left or Fox News on the right.
HRC has the Orlando shooter's father in her backdrop at her rally today. It is news on every major site including top for liberal based Yahoo. However, not even mentioned on CNN site. Yet there are 5 negative "top" stories on Trump.

Yes, CNN is politically right where you are. They say they are independent, but nothing they publish reflects anything but far left ideology for Clinton.

Did Obama lie about this?

From the WSJ --

"WASHINGTON—New details of the $400 million U.S. payment to Iran earlier this year depict a tightly scripted exchange specifically timed to the release of several American prisoners held in Iran.

The picture emerged from accounts of U.S. officials and others briefed on the operation: U.S. officials wouldn’t let Iranians take control of the money until a Swiss Air Force plane carrying three freed Americans departed from Tehran on Jan. 17. Once that happened, an Iranian cargo plane was allowed to bring the cash home from a Geneva airport that day.

President Barack Obama and other U.S. officials have said the payment didn’t amount to ransom, because the U.S. owed the money to Iran as part of a longstanding dispute linked to a failed arms deal from the 1970s. U.S. officials have said that the prisoner release and cash transfer took place through two separate diplomatic channels.

But the handling of the payment and its connection to the Americans’ release have raised questions among lawmakers and administration critics.

The use of an Iranian cargo plane to move pallets filled with $400 million brings clarity to one of the mysteries surrounding the cash delivery to Iran first reported by The Wall Street Journal this month. Administration officials have refused to publicly disclose how and when the transfer took place. Executives from Iran’s flagship carrier, Iran Air, organized the flight from Tehran to Geneva where the cash—euros and Swiss francs and other currencies—was loaded onto the aircraft, these people said.

“Our top priority was getting the Americans home,” said a U.S. official. Once the Americans were “wheels up” on the morning of Jan. 17, Iranian officials in Geneva were allowed to take custody of the $400 million in currency, according to officials briefed on the exchange....."

It wasn't ransom because we owed them the money. What a laugh. That's like one of those court cases where the murderer, arrested with the body in his car and blood on his hands, is found not guilty because of some stupid technicality like they didn't Mirandize him or something.

Obama can call it charity payments for the Little Sisters of the Poor if he wants. Everybody knows what it was and terrorists will take notice.

Obama must have studied under Bill "depends on your definition of 'is'" Clinton.

And this guy's favorite saying is "that's not who we are as Americans".

Really? America has laws strictly prohibiting ransom payments to foreign states or terrorist groups.

The same laws he publicly stated he wouldn't enforce if American families desired to pay ransom for their captured relatives.

These laws were enforced (until he took office) as a deterrent by negating any financial gain, thus greatly decreasing the motivation and frequency of kidnappings.

BO has proven time and again he has little understanding or regard for the values and traditions of patriotic Americans and those who died protecting them.

Brad, I couldn't have stated it better. Also I hate when he says "that's not who we are." He thinks his words establishes who we are or who were not as Americans. There are so many things he's done "that's not who we are" so I wish he'd STFU.

And that's not all folks. We then paid them an additional $1.3 billion for get this, interest on the $400 million! And they did it from something called the "Judgment Fund" to once again circumvent The Constitution.

Yet more questions surround the administration’s handling of the remaining $1.3 billion. Could this have been drawn from a fund bankrolled by American taxpayers and housed at Treasury, called the Judgment Fund? And why were the 13 payments in amounts of one cent less than $100,000,000?

The Judgment Fund has long been a controversial vehicle for federal agencies to detour past one of the most pointed prohibitions in the Constitution: “No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.”

The Judgment Fund, according to a Treasury Department Web site, is “a permanent, indefinite appropriation” used to pay monetary awards against U.S. government agencies in cases “where funds are not legally available to pay the award from the agency’s own appropriations.”

That should help Iran build those terrorist training bases they're putting up in Latin America specifically to attack the United States.

This is the stupidest Administration in history. And we're about to shoot ourselves in the head by electing an Obama clone!

We can only hope Hillary won't keep John Kerry on as Sec. of State.

How was the interest paid to them?

Congress is trying to figure that out. They're being stone walled by the Obama Admin., of course. State Dept. just says that it was paid.

State has refused to disclose even such basic information as the date on which Iran took receipt of the $1.3 billion. As recently as August 4, a State spokesman told the press: “I don’t have a date of when that took place.”

Nor has the administration answered whether the $1.3 billion was transferred to Iran via the banking system, or, like the $400 million, in cash. According to the Judgment Fund web site, the “preferred method” for payments is “by electronic fund transfer,” approved by the relevant government agency, to the party receiving the award.

I heard no warning shots were fired.

Iranian Boats heavily armed harass our US Destroyer and we shoot flairs in the air and blow the horn. We come across as little girls screaming "Stranger Danger, Stranger Danger." I don't blame our military as we know the administration has the call. It just sucks that we're not allowed to punch the bully in the Adam's apple. We have to have a leader that gets in front of the world and state that this will not be tolerated and if it happens again to expect we will defend ourselves if approached. Then react if they do it to show we mean what we say. They don't respect us. We just gave them $400 million for hostages and then what $150 Billion or $500 billion? Then they do this? Not even talking about the time they captured our guys and humiliated them to the world. When is enough.....enough?

Sure we're giving free money to terrorists, but Big Brother Obama is really just saving us money in the long run.

White House officials had said that they believed the U.S. would lose the arbitration case over the initial $400 million payment, made by the last Shah of Iran months before the Islamic Revolution. Such a decision would have made them liable for much more money.

Obama thumbs his nose at and ignores Congress, but the thought that some international court could rule against us, that scares him sh!tless!! I guess it's the globalist in him.

How were we able to give that money directly when BO told us we could not give the ransom directly so we had to ship cash on pallettes?

Congressional officials told the Wall Street Journal that the remaining $1.3 billion was paid in two more installments delivered on Jan. 22 and Feb. 5.

A Treasury spokeswoman told the Associated Press the cash payments were necessary because of the "effectiveness of U.S. and international sanctions," which isolated Iran from the international finance system. The payments were made in Swiss francs, euros and other currencies.

What's his motive for doing this? Because no way it helps us. We do know how it helps them. So again........WHY?

Is anyone surprised the BO apologists on here haven't come up with a lame *** explanation yet? I guess the BO gang has not distributed talking points yet
Maybe they will unveil them on the Sunday talkers ala Susan Rice's doggy show.
