OB Confirming Aston as HC

not sure that overseas is complaining about Aston as much as replying to the post before who is calling Mulkey a *****. Sounds like a sarcastic reply to that poster rather than a complain about Aston.

Actually, I was one of the first to offer my support for the hire, which CP (and others) can verify. And you might also look back at the "Does anyone know..." thread for some of the first comments made about Karen, and with respect to the open position, on this forum. You are the one who turned up on another thread and started using provacative language. But I guess I should go there to respond to your comments. And with respect to the text, I'm sorry, but Karen sent it. And whatever their relationship, considering who it was going to, it wasn't a very good idea That's all I said, and I think almost everyone is in agreement about that. Instead of using "good grief" to describe my post you should have used it with respect to Karen's text.

Please read the post above again for context clues. As mentioned, it is not unusual to contact former employers you have a personal relationship with regarding promotions. Aston can contact whomever she wants that she considers in her "inner circle." Clearly, Mulkey couldn't keep the news to herself. I guess Coach Aston has learned a lesson regarding Mulkey's ability to keep a secret. But, it really does not matter.

If you or other posters questioning Aston over a text really are "happy" with her hiring, then why make an issue over this? Again, "good grief."

Because the text wasn't just to a former employer, it was to the HC of one of our biggest rivals - and someone who in turn made an anncounement about our program our own AD hadn't released or discussed publically yet.

the only concern I have is Mulkey releasing the news BEFORE it is done by Texas. I can understand Karen informing her inner circle of her acceptance of the job. Nothing wrong there. But Mulkey making it public before it is announced is very strange indeed. Along with disclosing that she is going to accept the job, Karen should have told all to keep it quiet until it was announced. Simple professional courtesy to your current employer and your soon to be employer who probably wants to handle how and when the news is announced.

Um, I think you're the only one who is riled up. I just said it wasn't a very smart thing to do, and I don't think anyone disagrees with that. There's something a little weird about some of your posts, and reactions, on a number of different threads. What gives?

I really believe that this is some of our fan base griping about nothing that matters in the grand scheme of things. We already knew and it was already reported by the statesman, Denton paper, Espn, and other major outlets so who really cares? Who found out from Kim's announcement that didn't already know? Let's just focus on our new coach and what she can accomplish on the court not made up media drama.

I have never liked Mulkey. It all started for me with the histrionics over every call that doesn't go her way. Hitting your knees to beg with an official for a call? Really? Some say that's passion I say that's pathetic and can't imagine behavior like this in any other profession. This is the example you want to set for young women you are coaching, many of whom will go on to careers in something beyond basketball? If your boss doesn't rule in your favor at work you hit your knees and plead for your way? Trash is as trash does. She's a terrible example for young women. Her leaking this story is just another example of someone without class nor dignity. Hopefully, Karen has learned a lesson about who she can and cannot trust.

I know that the Statesman ran with this story because of Mulkey's comments. Please don't try to characterize it as we already knew and no harm, no foul. Kim should have acted like a professional and kept her mouth shut. But why would she start behaving like a professional now?

Come on folks, I wasn't trying to start a fight between us, I was trying to start one between us and Kim!

Seriously though, I wouldn't blame Karen going to Kim and telling her, she did work for her and they are friends. This was all on KM, and is it the most egregious thing ever? Of coure not. But it just speaks to the type of person KM is. She hates Texas, jealous of us. I dislike her like I did Marsha Sharp at Tech. Whiny, cry-babying, petulent bore that won't stop crying ala stoops.
And I hope Karen is ready, because KM may be a friend now, but once she's named, guarantee she's sharpening the knife and sizing up Karen's back. It's gonna be no holes barred and KM will crank up the negative recruiting like she's done since she got there. And sadly it's worked.

I respect your opinion, utfann, and txex86, I simply said most agree it wasn't a very smart thing to do. I can certainly read what others have posted, and stand by my comment. And I don't think you were causing a fight between anyone, Horn-N-LA, though the reaction of some might make it seem that way. No one attacked Karen, and this has nothing to do with the "grand scheme of things" IMO. We all know Karen had been interviewed, and that souces indicated she was the likely choice, and that the regents were meeting today. But there had been no official announcement, and what had been been released, or rumored, is a lot different than a headline that states..."Mulkey says Karen Aston will be the next HC at Texas," and that talked about giving her a celebratory hug, or it being her dream job, or whatever else was said. Of course Mulkey should have kept it to herself, but all things considered, is is really all that surprising she said what she did? As to whether or not it was intentiional, I have my doubts. It could just be stupidity on Mulkey's part, but whatever the case, it didn't look very good.

Chip Brown said on 104.9 FM this morning that the announcement would come after Tuesday night's championship game. So, perhaps Wednesday.

Horn N LA, I want to voice my opinon that I've never heard of Kim being a "dirty recruiter" she always talks on her merits and what she can do to take a player to and elite level and win titles. Trust me, us coaches talk about who does what and what tactics they employ and of all the people who speak negatively of opposing coaches she is not amung them. And quite frankly its probably because she doesnt have to. Not that its a big deal, I just wanted to make it known that it wasnt entirely accurate. And as far as starting a fight between us and Kim, thats all well and good and its ok to hate her because she coaches at our rival school but not for issues like this. I really believe its a "non-issue"

“dirty recruiting” is kind of ambiguous. There is making promises that you have no intention of keeping, or know that you may not be able to fulfill. There is negative recruiting, talking down the competition instead of selling your own strengths. There is negative recruiting that is about spreading rumors, or just flat telling lies about your competition. And, then there are things that are just flat against the rules, like directly or indirectly providing inappropriate benefits or perks.

It seems fairly commonly acknowledged that men’s basketball is pretty “dirty.”

Utfan – I’m curious…..I don’t mean to ask for specifics, or certainly any names……I’m just wondering….from your experience, when women’s basketball does get dirty what form does it usually take, and is that common and something you have to look out for, or is it typically much “cleaner” than men’s recruiting?

As far as "dirty recruiting", I was referring to the same type of crap Sharp and others used that ultimately cost us Swoopes and others that never gave us a chance.

I'd heard that KM engages in that. I admittedly have no direct proof. Maybe the other staff members were what was meant. Others may know her on a better level, and if that's the case, so be it, I don't mind admitting being wrong. Either way, I still don't care for her.
