Man, that was REALLY sad watching the fireman talk in the Giuliani press conference about losing his 40 year plus firemen buddies. Don't know why that got to me so much.
pongo--That got to me also. The first time all day that I really broke down. Just the way the stereotypes were laid out in that conference:Guilani looking like a politician, coat & tie on, smooth speaking...the police chief in full uniform, quick replies and no ********. Then the fire chief steps up to the podium, his hair frayed, shirt rumpled, weariness on his face, and his tie at half-mast. He looked like he just came back from ground zero and not been hovering around TV cameras all day. Then some idiot has to ask him something along the lines of "What does it mean to lose [the top brass]?" and you can see him try to come to terms for his fallen friends. Guys that had been in the department 30-40 years. That was the moment that tore me up yesterday.
Thanks for honoring the FDNY members. I lost two cousins that were with FDNY, Manuel and Dennis Mojica and am really just now able to talk/write about it. I still break down when I see images or video from that day and during our national anthem.
