North pole to melt this year?

For Richard Alley, a glaciologist at Penn State University, the new research hints at a possible solution to a question that scientists have long had about the planet’s past — and in particular thePliocene epoch, beginning 5.3 million years ago, when sea levels were dramatically higher, by as much as 40 meters.

“The sea-level indicators from the Pliocene have suggested that an important amount of ice came out of East Antarctica into the ocean,” says Alley. “Sedimentary records offshore pointed in the same way, and recent modeling…shows the strong potential for this to have happened. This new paper adds to the evidence — the pieces are fitting together.”

Why are we concerned about a centimeter of coastal water height here or there when it already was 40 meters higher before?

I considered buying a beach house after the hurricane hit Galveston a several years ago. But realized the folly/risk in it before it was too late.

I thought Arctic ice was thinning but Antarctic ice was getting thicker and covering more area. I thought that was reported just last month.
Not only that but masses of ice are melting and yet seas are not rising as fast as predicted. And besides wasn't Obama's election to reverse all this. I simply can't keep up. Nor can I keep up with the cause and effect even of what is happening. Bush caused Katrina because he hated black people and we were going to see so many more hurricanes. When was the last time one hit?
I still say we are awfully small and not as strong as we think we are. Thank you Rich Mullins.

You need to keep up. There are several dynamics at work and the liars (I am looking at you mop) love to obfuscate over this.

Both the Arctic and the Antarctic are losing ice mass (ie volume). The Arctic is just sea ice so it is easier to track. The Antarctic has a sea component and mostly land component. The Antarctic is gaining some sea ice in its winter. This completely melts in the summer and is about 50% less than the losses in the Arctic. The Antarctic land ice is losing volume.

You should pay attention to the Arctic and the net for the world ice volume. They are both going down.

edit: turns out the diagram on my link was wave height, so it isn't radiation as described, it was still weird seing the blob and then that pattern emerging in the other link.

interesting, very interesting.

Check this out:
Open one browser with your link and focus on the diagram of "the blob" then open another browser and go to this link:

http://www.collapsingintoconsciousn...r-days-of-eating-pacific-ocean-fish-are-over/

Go to the video a bit down the screen and pause it about 20 to 26 seconds in.

Now compare the blob with the German simulation of the Fukushima dispersal. Then read the , most certainly overdone and scare tactic, piece around the video talking about the continued leaks from the water cooling of the reactors.

It is something to watch anyway is all I will say as I don't know nuthing /sargeant schultz.

Lets hope none of this is related to the nuke **** in Japan.

raw data vs multiple different attempts to "normalize" the data. hmmmmm, science and statistics are very interesting:

Climatologists have long been aware of the poor state of global surface temperature records and considerable effort has been put into adjusting the raw data to correct known errors and biases.

These adjustments are not insignificant. For example it has been noted that in the temperature series prepared by NOAA for the USA, the adjusted data exhibits a much larger warming trend than the raw data.

This might get interesting. Hopefully the scientists will be objective no matter who is paying their salaries or future grants, etc, etc.

The science is settled. I do however enjoy reading about the discussions of how the settled science evolves as we learn more about the Sun, CO2 on Venus, etc, etc. Embrace the climate changes because history has shown they will continue.

NOAA calling their Arctic shot:

http://dailycaller.com/2015/05/06/noaa-says-the-arctic-will-be-ice-free-in-25-years/

“I doubt the Arctic will be free of all ice in any summer, although the total area may well be greatly reduced in the future if it continues to warm there,” Chip Knappenberger, a climate scientist at the libertarian Cato Institute, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Such a situation should not be overly worrisome, as there is ample evidence that it has occurred in the past and clearly, polar bears, and everything else up there managed to survive,” Knappenberger said.

More from NOAA on temperature history adjustments:

http://dailycaller.com/2015/06/04/n...a-to-erase-the-15-year-global-warming-hiatus/

“Newly corrected and updated global surface temperature data from NOAA’s [National Centers for Environmental Information] do not support the notion of a global warming ‘hiatus,'” wrote NOAA scientists in their study presenting newly adjusted climate data.

To increase the rate in warming, NOAA scientists put more weight on certain ocean buoy arrays, adjusted ship-based temperature readings upward, and slightly raised land-based temperatures as well. Scientists said adjusted ship-based temperature data “had the largest impact on trends for the 2000-2014 time period, accounting for 0.030°C of the 0.064°C trend difference.” They added that the “buoy offset correction contributed 0.014°C…

That would be everyone on earth
+ another billion or so who do not exist
I see Al Gore back at work here somewhere

world-energy-consumption-by-fuel-2014.png

Given this graph I don't see any way there will be any significant changes in fuel consumption any time soon. Check out the alternative fuel percentages.

Maybe all funds related to the climate change scare should relate to actual ways we can survive it or adapt to it or better yet how we can actually thrive with the coming changes if the "settled science" is to be believed.

No more studies on whether it is happening or not. Only better tracking of what is happening with the weather/climate and how best to deal with it.

If an island or coastline is going to be affected so what. Those were risky decisions akin to building in the river basin lowlands. There should be no compensation or spreading of the risks of anyone or any structure built near or in those areas.

Private insurance is available, in some cases, for these places.

Look at the diagram again. Tell me the energy usage is going to change significantly.

So I have not found anyone reporting that the North Pole has melted? Is it fair to say that the North Pole in fact will not melt by summer of 2008?
