No one saw this coming

(Reuters) - Tens of thousands of children unaccompanied by parents or relatives are flooding across the southern U.S. border illegally, forcing the Obama administration and Congress to grapple with both a humanitarian crisis and a budget dilemma.

An estimated 60,000 such children will pour into the United States this year, according to the administration, up from about 6,000 in 2011. Now, Washington is trying to figure out how to pay for their food, housing and transportation once they are taken into custody.

The flow is expected to grow. The number of unaccompanied, undocumented immigrants who are under 18 will likely double in 2015 to nearly 130,000 and cost U.S. taxpayers $2 billion, up from $868 million this year, according to administration estimates.

The shortage of housing for these children, some as young as 3, has already become so acute

The dems/libs should be required to house, feed, educate, and medicate these illegals, since they are the ones who have no problem with the non-border.

Every freakin' thing is NOT about Bush.
We can't go back and undo.

This is a problem NOW and unless we do something it will be a problem for decades
and this is an issue that will cost our great grandchildren.

BI
what would you have the govt do about this problem?

Maybe I've been watching too much House of Cards but this article seems like it was seeded by the Democrats. Heading into mid-term elections they need to change the issues from ACA, specifically an issue that would harm the Republicans. Easy...put immigration back on the front pages. Why else would an issue that has been ongoing seem to suddenly come back?

The puppet strings are too easy to see, IMHO. The best thing for Repubs would be to simply ignore this topic. It's a loser issue for them. Either they piss off the Hispanic voting block or they create apathy in their base by embracing the Hispanics. Either way they lose.

You've been living on the left coast too long to see what is wrong.

You may be right except where you said Republicans should ignore.
This problem will cost billions we don't have and it is a problem that is only getting worse.

I think the Voter can handle more than one issue
and this is a pretty stark issue
I do think you are correct that BO and Dems would like something to deflect from obamacare.

dillohorn- Nah...I'm just not as old.

Horn6127- Let me clarify my statement. I don't think any politician should ignore the issue but rather any solution the Republicans embrace will have disastrous consequences for them in an election year. Because of that they'll ignore it and I'm sure any political adviser would be telling them as much.

the cost should be born by the people who hire illegal aliens. they are the magnet that draws them. Yet they go unpunished

The BP doesn't even try to find them or punish them, but if they were prosecuted, even a few of them, it would deter others from hiring them and with fewer jobs, more would leave voluntarily rather than this clusterfug we have now.

Ihave talked to my republican tea party congressman about this and guess what, he is not remotely interested in throwing any of his yacht club buddies and contributors in the federal pen. What a shock.

Yea no one saw this coming when they crossed the ocean a couple hundred years ago. I mean its not like there were no brown people on this continent. Kill a few million after you get here and think brown people have no right to freely migrate as they have done for thousands of years prior.

I got a idea, if you dont like it move back to Europe where your people are from.

Becoming a Republican is what happens to democrats if they open their eyes as they mature.

orng
You need to read some history. Ever since some migrated over the land bridge there have been people killing each other for territory or slaves etc
You act like all groups of brown people( your term) got along and sat around campfires singing.
Do you think any of the brown groups took in masses of other brown groups children and lovingly fed clothed educated and gave health care?

I like huisache's idea. It's the only one that will work. That tea party rep isn't very tea partyish if he won't challenge status quo.

Forced? You believe in immaculate conception? Why do liberals believe nobody is responsible for their own actions, but readily blame one former President for everything?

my congressman is the great Blake Farenthold, who is actually preferable, to me anyway, to the idiot democrat who held the seat before him. Sort of like von Papen was preferable to that Austrian who succeeded him as Chancellor

Since when is choosing to have an abortion not taking responsibility for their actions? That's not an easy choice for any woman, I'd assume.

Lifetime responsibility for a moment of biological driven indiscretion seems a little harsh but I'm likely a "bleeding heart liberal" to some. Then again, I don't believe life starts until the child is viable without the functioning life support system of the mother. Medical science typically places that in the tale end of 2nd or early 3rd trimester (weeks 20-24). So, I accept that. Any earlier than that and you are forcing a mother to hold a non-functioning embryo to ensure it becomes a child.

I say this as a child of a teen mom in small town Nebraska who chose to not have an abortion. I'm grateful for that but feel this should be a woman's decision, not mine.
