No more of Mora (edit - Chip Kelly hired)

UCLA: Head coach Jim Mora has been let go, the school has announced. Offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. AD Dan Guerrero announced a national search will begin immediately with support from Casey Wasserman and Troy Aikman. Read more about the decision & candidates here. UCLA announced they will honor the terms of his buyout (over $12 million), paying for it “exclusively with department generated funds”. Today is Jim’s birthday.

From my recollection UCLA has never been very aggressive in seeking a HC. I live in SoCal and the passion for that program has been missing here since forever. I wouldn't think that Kelly fits the culture there but perhaps they are tired of underachieving for...decades.

I had thought that Mora was almost a sure thing at UCLA. His failure to achieve has been a real surprise.

Personal disclosure, I know Jim Mora and feel he's a good guy.

I too thought he'd do great things at UCLA and was disappointed that he didn't end up at my alma mater, UW. Now, based on his results with the Falcons and Bruins I'm thinking he may simply be a very good DC.

As for UCLA? They are a basketball school thus they commitment to winning will never be there.

As a Nebraska fan, I was really hoping Chip Kelly would land @ Florida so that Scott Frost could come home to Lincoln. This lessens the odds that his return occurs.

With this job and Gator and Vol jobs all open, aggy is going to have a tough time pulling a home run name. Those other programs all have much more tradition and winning resumes.

That doesn't mean a thing. Coaches and players almost always say they are staying.

True enough. Remember TH saying he wanted ALL his coaches to aspire to a HC spot. It indicated motivation, drive, etc. Bo is gone, I'm hoping Aranda comes to Austin after LSU ends their season if Bo leaves

Sounds like Kelly for UCLA

They probably would not have let Mora go (~$12M left on contract) unless they already had some indication from him, maybe more. Which is what Mandel was originally suggesting

Mandel agrees with the idea that UCLA would not have made the move without a specific target in mind
