no country for old men

I've been to west Texas along the border, and it isn't like that!

Regardless, I'm gonna go watch this one. Looks good.

Man, I'm from the valley. We know how to irrigate.

Langtry is like that. The Law West of Pecos had his work cut out for him, I'll give you that.

This will be the first post baby outing the wife and I have. Sans baby of course. Thanks Grandma! Can't wait for this one. I may hit up the book before I see the movie.

it looks incredible. why in the hell would they not have austin as one of the "november 9th select cities"? i'm pissed.

You want another nice bloody border story, try "Ask A Policeman" by Rolando Hinojosa, UT tenured prof/author. What I wouldn't give to see the Coens adapt that.

Movie ******* rocks. Performances so uniformily outstanding, I can't choose one as standout. Techinically awesome -- when's the last time there was a two hour movie without a single note of soundtrack? Or didn't need to beat the audience over the head with mood music because the scenes are so well constructed?

Tension built because, like good horror movies, the main character is doing smart things instead of going upstairs alone with the power out.

Interesting: complete lack of judgementalism - several approaches to morality are presented, but the narration doesn't imply any are better than the others -- it just shows you 'here's what happens'.

I got plenty more, but won't dish spoiler-level info until more people have seen the flick.

Coens rule.

Oh, Coens staple missing, assumably due to the adaptation of the book: mandatory mangling of foreign language word or phrase, which is kind of funny considering the proximity to the border.

Though lines like "Cierra la puerta! Hay lobos!" is pretty creepy in context.

this film is insanely good. It's not a standard Cohen bros flick, they stuck to the book as far as language and settings go. they cut out the scenes.......................................................................................................................................spoiler alert

spoiler alert

the scenes where Ed Tom talks to the Odesse kids after they get caught with Chuguri's gun (in the book) and they decided not to show the shootout in El Paso that kills our protagonist. frankly I like the decision as I don't think the shootout was a scene we needed

one little beef....in the coin-flip gas station scene...in the back ground behind Anton is a "Jack Links Beef jerky" stand...out of place, out of scene, sure beef jerky in a gas station fits but not given the "time" in which the scene took place. It's like RZA's Wu-Tang tattoo in American Gangster, cover that **** up, there was no Wu Tang clan in the late 60"s. I know, I ***** about the little continuity things

The only movies I make a point to see on opening weekend are Coen brother movies. I looooooove these guys.

The trailer of this reminded me a lot of Blood Simple with the Lone Biker of the Apocalypse blended in.

Excellent film. Saw it last night and was really pleased. The Coens do such a great job at capturing a place and this was no exception. They didn't really break any new ground with this film, but who cares; they're some of the best storytellers around and my favorite filmmakers ever.

The sound design was what stood out the most to me. Should definitely win the Oscar for it, and I expect a few other nominations as well, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Am I reaching to think that the evil hitman's last name "Chigurh", spoken phonetically, could be "chigger", a blood-sucking parasite?

For those that have seen it and/or have read the book: I bought the book a few weeks ago. Should I read it first or just enjoy the movie without knowing what's going to happen?

Great movie. The tension never lets up for a second. So nice to see the Coen's get away from the quirky character, dialogue heavy schtick.

I read the book first. Glad I did, but either way you'll enjoy the movie.
