What lends credence to the "system QB" theory is that when teams have time to prepare (like before bowl games) teams like West Virginia and Boise State have their way with OU ultimately.
Slightly off-topic, but Landry's parents named him after legendary Cowboys' coach Tom Landry. It's a unique first name, like "Colt". I think this kid has a bright future at OU. He's not some chump that was signed as a roster filler, he was one of the most highly recruited QB's of his class.
There's no question that inexperience is his primary enemy right now, but he has a cannon for an arm, and he's very intelligent. I can think of two recent redshirt freshmen QB's who had some success in the Red River Rivalry.
Well, I've been a Miami hater since Joey Aboussie fumbled the ball while running for the winning TD in '73.
But, Hell, Miami is a Spring chick in regard to hate of ou. I expect the little shrimp headed ou QB to revert to a BYU performance Sat night and I will be pleased to grin and bear cheering a Miami win.
ou Sucks!
Landry Jones is very talented, I don't think anyone should doubt that. Is he a Heisman-trophy talent like Bradford? Who knows? I don't think we're going to find out this year, with OU's issues along the OL and at WR and TE. Bradford's going to struggle more than last year as well, if/when he returns.
As for Texas, it's hard to call ours a "system" when Greg Davis continually morphs and adjusts the offense to suit the QB and other personnel. GD has his shortcomings, but one thing he has proven willing and able to do is adjust his offense for the players on hand. Sometimes it might seem to take a little too long, but he does get it done. Thus, anyone who might call Texas' offense a "system" simply doesn't watch Texas play football.
Was Landry Jones a big-time recruit or a sleeper like Colt? I don't recall hearing about him during '08 recruiting.
Makes me wonder: If The Stache keeps looking good (and somehow leads them to victory against the 'Canes), will Blake Bell decommit? I don't see Bell being content to ride the pine for 2-3 years behind Jones.
