NHL Conference Finals Thread

The youth & inexperience forced into the line-up by injuries is really telling in this series.

The kids stepped up and were able to perform against the Ducks & Sharks. They are not at the level needed to match Detroit. Granted, Marty hasn't made any bail your team out saves, but the difference in the series has been the D corps.

The Wings D is playing all-world. The Stars D is a notch below and that recipe gets you 4-2 in game three and an 0-3 hole.

Hook 'em & Go Stars

Well it was fun while it lasted. I'm glad the Stars made it this far. Hopefully they can make this a series and win the next 2 games.

Now is the time to go into Detroit and steal one on the road. Come back to Dallas for Game 6 and know that we can indeed play against these guys. Game 7 is anyone's game.

I was 7 rows behind Bettman last night in section 117. I got into a verbal spat with one of his security detail. Seems he didn't like my sign "Hey Bettman, David Stern called, he needs his refs back."
I told the guy, "what's wrong? You think the NBA has bad refs or something?"

I don't see it happening. The Stars are not going to get the benefit of the refs' home cooking calls in Detroit. Although the Stars played harder last game, the Wings got jobbed hard by the calls that were made and weren't made.

The series will end in Detroit.

I didn't say it would be easy by any stretch of the imagination.

I will say that I agree with Melrose when he said that interference call was probably a make up from one that should have been called in Game 1 and wasn't. I still think that Turco was interfered with on that play. That is what Detriot does well though. They get Holstrom to hang out right at the edge of the crease and screen and agitate the opposing goal tender.

I wish we could run Eddie out there for a classic goalie stick between the legs move.

I don't know if anyone else noticed, but with 1:37 left in the first period of the game today NBC did a 'highlight' of several Wings hits in the playoffs. They showed 4 hits in various playoff series. It was clear that in ALL 4 hits the players left their feet to make the hit. It was my understanding that not only was leaving your feet a penalty, but it also warrented a suspension. Am I wrong on that point?

Yeah leaving the feet and extending the elbow makes it pretty dirty.

Great win today! Marty finally breaks the hex. The checking line has been great the past two games, shutting down the Wings #1 line and even chipping in some much needed goals.

Monday night is going to be brutal...Stars Game 6 and Spurs Game 7.

I'm late to the thread, but I just wanted to point out a few things-1) Chris Chelios is 46 years old! 2) Dallas' Stu Barnes was scratched with "concussionlike symptoms"
3) Detroit's Johan Franzen was scratched with "concussionlike symptoms"

QUESTION: Why does the NHL call a concussion "concussionlike symptoms"?

The guy's got major headaches. His vision is blurred. He's throwing up. But he doesn't
have a concussion.

No, he's just got "concussionlike symptoms"
.

The parents, wives, and children of these players who are allowed to play even though their "concussionlike symptoms"
haven't completely subsided (thus meaning they are still risking permanent health problems for the rest of their lives) should be suing the NHL for tens of millions of dollars.

MaxHorn have a great time! I have been to the last 3 home games including that 4 overtime thriller v. the sharks. I will be in FL on vacation on Monday night or would be at the game otherwise.
The atmosphere is electric. Be sure and get there an hour or so before the game to enjoy the drinks and band in Victory.

I noticed that too with the replay of the "hits." If a player leaves their feet it's a 2 minute minor penalty for charging. Detroit is immune to this rule because they are hockey town.

Concussion-like symptoms is a little misleading. I had a CT scan for brain damage a while back and I asked the doctor about symptoms I had been experiencing from a blow I took to the head while playing hockey and some clarification on what a concussion is.

He told me that a concussion is just the act of being knocked out due to trauma to the head (I'm heavily paraphrasing here). It's the after effects of what damage may have happened to the brain that could be described as concussion like symptoms. They're mostly looking to see if it's bruised or bleeding inside and the person suffers from blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, etc.

What a huge win yesterday. IF we can keep it up for 60 more, and get this to a 7th game, you just never know. If you would've told me the Stars would extend the series to 7, I would've been very happy. So, win this one in front of the fas, and you just never know.......

I think more like 73-1. We will get one because Osgood will be laughing so hysterically at their 73rd goal that we will sneak one in unopposed.

DOOOOOOOOMED!

i have no idea how loud or crazy AAC can get, but if the fans act like they did at reunion for game 7 in 1999 vs colorado, we'll win. i still remember mike keane being a badass in the first period. avs didn't have a chance.

Nice third period to end the season, and what a season. Hell, taking Detroit to six games in the West finals is incredible. Now to figure out what to wish for in the offseason. I'll be stoked to watch our young D improve with age.

Here's how I see it:

Must-keep players: Stu Barnes, Jere Lehtinen, Joel Lundqvist, Mike Modano, Brenden Morrow, Steve Ott, Mike Ribeiro, Brad Richards,Philippe Boucher, Mattias Norstrom, Stéphane Robidas, Sergei Zubov, Marty Turco

Keep if you can, trade if you must: Loui Eriksson, Mark Fistric, Niklas Hagman, Antti Miettinen, Toby Petersen, Trevor Daley, Nicklas Grossman

Mostly Expendable: Krystopher Barch, Brandon Crombeen, Konstantin Pushkarev, Brad Winchester, Dan Jancevski, Johan Holmqvist, Tobias Stephan

Lundqvist showed a lot of tenacity and grit and some surprising skill in the playoffs. I just think he's a much better role player than Loui. I dunno, it could really go either way.
