NHL Conference Finals Thread

I'm superstitious and the stars were doing just fine with just the original thread thank you very much. For fear of a jinx, i vote to abolish this thread at once!
 
I am getting older. It took me almost all week to recover from getting in about 4 am after that game 6 win.

That Morrow OT goal was right in front of us... man I can still see it in my mind.
 
What a brutal call. I see Bill McCreary is trying to recapture his "worst official in hockey" title from Don Koharski.

God that was awful.
 
I would like to believe that was a hangover from Sunday, but ****...we were not competitive. We looked like we were in slow motion.

Can any of you hockey guys give me reason to believe we can do a 180 in 2 days?
 
starting out playing short handed for more than half of the first period might have something to do with it.

I let Gary Bettman 2 messages on his voice mail tonight.
 
3 power play goals. stars have to play 5 on 5 hockey with these guys. I fully expect a 180 from this team. I just hope it's in game 2.

I can see some gaps in the wings' D that the Stars should be able to dismantle. I saw signs of it early on to (letinen to hagman open net). I think we just got beaten down early and gave up towards the end of the second. Glad we scored and hope that carries over.


oh, and I still approve the deletion of this thread. In fact, i think I'll go post on LHF68's original from now on.
 
well, i feel a little better after talking to my friend who is a ref up in Cape Cod and his dad who is head of officials for one of the leagues up there.

They said it the worst officiating they'd seen in the playoffs this year, much much worse than the Bruins / Canadians game 7.

oh well, we get a difference crew for game 2 and hopefully a different mindset, a more hitting style.

I'm not worried....yet. Like above posters said, we played most of the 1st period killing penalties....even 5 on 3s. We got off to one of those starts, and we couldn't recover. The entire 2nd and 3rd period, we really did outwork them. I'm reallly thinking we just got off on a bad foot early and couldn't recover, mainly because they are that good. Will we win game 2? I hope so. I don't KNOW if we'll win, but I know it'll be close. If we pull it out, I like our chances of making it a very long series.
 
Has the officiating been this bad throughout all the playoff games for both conferences? I just feel like the Stars have had a lot of **** calls against them and been put in some ****** circumstances. It feels like the whole world (NHL and Versus, too, for that matter) are against us... and it seems to be continuing in this series. I'm usually not the consipiracy theorist when it comes to sports but this is getting ridiculous. A 5 on 3 so early in the game on a ******** call.

Seems like the NHL reeeeeally wants a Wings/Pens Finals and will do anything to get it. I'm just sayin'.....

How come there were no Stars fans bitching about the refs when the Stars stole Game 3 from the Sharks? SJ clearly scored a goal early in the 1st period that would have given SJ the 2-1 win, but was disallowed because the referee blew the whistle thinking the puck was frozen. Clearly it wasn't.

The refs made up for it in game 2. They could have called an extra 10+ penalties on Dallas. Instead, they called anything/everything against the Wings...not that it mattered.

Game three should be fun.
 
ousux, you obviously don't know the rule. When the ref loses sight of the puck he is by rule to blow his whistle. This is a pretty common deal in hockey games throughout the season. The ref doesn't know if the puck is frozen, but he loses sight, so he blows the whistle. That is the rule of the game.

Also, the officiating has been horrible. I will say it was better in Game 2, and Game 2 was a game that the Wings won. There were bad calls made both ways, but there wasn't a great deal to complain about. Game 1 was a disaster for the officials in BOTH Conferences.

It really does look like Bettman and the NHL want a "Hockeytown v. Young gun Crosby and Pitt" final. It also seems like they are doing everything in their power to ensure that happens.

How about accepting the fact that the Stars are the inferior team in this series?

Most Stars fans respect the Wings. Most of us know full well that it is an unhill battle to try to beat the Wings. I personally think the Wings are the best team in the NHL.
I also don't think the Wings need the help of the refs in games. Game 1 appears to have been somewhat of an anomoly in the calling of the games. Game 2 had bad calls that went both ways. I admit that readily and speaking for myself, the Stars just lost game 2. Game 2 isn't the issue. The issue really is game 1. I should say games 1s. BOTH game 1s were horribly officiated. When you start into Conference Finals series and the teams that seem the most desirable match up also get the calls...... you get people calling BS on boards.
 
lets see if home ice and all that it entails can push dallas over the hump and get a couple of wins. if they don't win both, it'll be over in 5. if they do win both, i'd say dallas has as almost as good a shot to win the series that detroit does. but i don't see them winning 2 in detroit, so they have to win all 3 in dallas.
 
Its good to see the rules don't apply to Detroit. There have been multiple hooks against Detroit that haven't been called. And that free run they got on Modano which ended with an elbow is just stupid. I don't see how the stars can win when they have to fight through elbows and hooks without getting any calls.
 
Did I seriously read a STARS fan complain about calls not being made?

Detroit fans should be complaining! That was an obvious attempt by the refs to attempt to make this a series. I watched the game with two Stars fans that were laughing at the calls that they were calling against Detroit and at how many penalties should have been called against Dallas...not that it mattered.
