Next Five Games

I keep getting proven wrong at every turn by this team. I think it's a function of the chemistry that was missing last year, and the undeniable proof that the Big XII is not very good. Either way, we're sitting pretty right now.

I just hope it's not one of those deals that comes back to bite us in the *** in March. Like we roll through the conference with only 2 losses, get to the conference tourney championship game, end up as a #2 seed, and then lose in the round of 32 because we haven't played anyone worth a damn since KU.

I'd say KSU and Baylor to finish out the season will be tough. There's a good chance both will be bubble teams and gunning for something to give them that last-second RPI bump.

Whether it finishes 5-0 or 4-1, it's been quite a run. Hope our 'Horns have plenty left in the tank for Monday's quick turnaround at aggy.

Now I'm greedy. I want 5-0. He'll, I want to run the table in conference play. Monday will be tough, but I really believe in this team. Hook 'Em!

4 down, 1 to go. Unbelievable run.

Tonight's win over MU wasn't physically or emotionally draining for our players as I feared going in the game. A short rest until the the A&M game won't matter so much. If anything, they will be more focused, especially on free throws.

KU and Mizzu were without question, our toughest B12 games. Toughest road games left, at aggie, Col and Neb are losable only if the stars line up correctly for them. Our defense is scary good and none of them have offensive players capable of beating us off the dribble enough to get us out of their kitchen. I'm not ready to believe anyone goes 16-0 in B12 so I'm thinking we lose to KSt in Austin only because the Wildcats seem hate us with unreasonable passion and always play out of their minds.

I reall wonder about Missouri. They just didn't show me a lot, and a lot of that probably had to do with us. But they do seem to have a history of not living up to the billing, so it wouldn't surprise me if it turns out they're not a top 15 team after all. Still an impressive win!

If yo had told me before this stretch Texas would go 4-1 I would have taken it in a heartbeat. Now I'm greedy I want that fifth win. Go Horns tonight and beat aggy.

Absolutely amazing run thru this gauntlet. To recap . . .

Home win over aTm by 21.
Road win over KU by 11.
Road win over OSU by 15.
Home win over Mizzou by 13.
Road win over aTm by 20.

The only game we didn't lead wire-to-wire was the KU game and we outscored them by 23 in the 2nd half.

What an amazing five-game stretch.

This season is far from over, so it's impossible to know where this group rates alongside other Texas teams, but I can confidently say I've never seen our Longhorns play better basketball than they are playing right now.

Going in I considered this a benchmark game in determining just how good this team is. That is such a hard place to play for a visiting team and the Horns took control from the start and broke aggy's will. If they keep playing like this, maybe that 60% FT shooting won't matter that much.

For the next five games, I think we will go 4-1 with the loss equally likely to come from either @ CU, vs. KSU, or @ Baylor. We'll still get a #1 seed, though.

If we go 5-0, then we will probably get the overall #1 seed, getting paired up with Duke, the lowest #1 seed.
