Newt On the Lazy Poor

This guy really knows how to broaden his base:

Lazy Negro children,

Newt is blowing his dog whistles already. I guess you can't take any chances with the base. It's always good to appeal to their prejudices and fears while you are on top.

"On Thursday, Newt Gingrich reaffirmed previous comments that child labor laws are “truly stupid.” At a campaign event in Iowa, Gingrich explained that poor children need to learn how to earn money, rather than get it illegally.
“They have no habit of ‘I do this and you give me cash’-unless it’s illegal,” Gingrich said, according to multiple reports of the event.

A few weeks ago, Gingrich proposed a program in which janitors’ unions in schools would be thrown out and replaced with poor children. This, Gingrich said, would allow these children to learn how to work — something he says they do not learn in their communities. “Really poor children, in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working and have nobody around them who works so they have no habit of showing up on Monday,” Gingrich said Thursday." Yes, those poor kids don't know how to work, as opposed to those rich ones who bust their asses all day.

I have a news flash for Newt: people in those "poor neighborhoods" work twice as hard as some of his neighbors and his fat ***. They just get paid minimum wage as opposed to the 1.7 million he gets for lecturing the folks at Fannie and Freddie about "history".

This is the same old playbook - "welfare queens", "criminals" - dog whistle politics that started with Nixon, kept up by Reagan and Newt is a MASTER of. Work up the base into a frenzy and drive the left nuts.

I wonder why he didn't make this same suggestion when he and Al Sharpton went around the country looking at the education system, esp. inner city schools and ways to improve that?

The rich kids work their asses off in school. as someone who attended both private and public school, there is a definite work ethic difference and it carries over to college and professional life. no maatter how much money is thrown at the poor, this sociological difference cannot be replicated by the government and is a major factor in the division between rich and poor in this country.

Wonder if Newt knows any poor people? He should try boarding MARTA around 5am any weekday morning and get a look at all of the lazy *** poor making their way to low paying jobs all across Atlanta.
He might learn something.

I hope Newt gets the nomination. He'll be the smartest, most articulate blunder machine in the history of presidential politics.

The two sides are talking past each other on this thread (as usual). The libs are defending the working poor and the cons are blasting the welfare queens. Two entirely different groups.

You personally know any poor lazy people?

Newt said:

"Really poor children in really poor neighborhoods have no habits of working and have nobody around them who works,"

When one removes all of the subtexts, what he said is a damnable lie.

newt is a sadist. he firmly stands in the judeo christian world view where work is actually a degrading and unending punishment for original sin.

I'm sorry, but the poor and poorer people in my family and friends are poor because they didn't do as well in school. And these are folks that came from the same gene pool and grew up in the same community. Bottom line is, no one kicked their ***.

Honestly hornfans, if you have (or will have) a son or daughter, and they become welfare recipients or are just always broke...why is that? I don't even know you or your children or future children, but 9 times out of 10, it's because they were lazy in school...because no one ever kicked their ***...because they were never socialized around disciplined people that no only worked physically hard, but also worked their tails off to improve their knowledge, education, grades, mind, etc.

I'm sorry, but if you can't finish high-school, 9 times out of 10 you have poor work ethic. I don't care what your situation is, It's not that hard.

What's funny about this is that the people who are jumping on Newt for saying that all poor people are lazy are now arguing that NO poor people are lazy.

And they're again ignoring that Newt never actually said it was about being lazy. He said it was about not working. There are as I understand it quite a few people that want to work that cannot find work. I'm sure I read that somewhere...

I know most would agree a lot of poor people are lazy. I agree that’s true.

However, I know 2 ladies who work 3 jobs to support their families. They work their asses off for about 90 hours a week while grandma watches the kids (1 FT and 2 PT jobs). These women happen to be black and live in the deep south, so the expectation of their culture is different. However, if any of them would have been brought up in a nice, supportive, middle-class home, they would all be very educated and making a lot more money now (and doing fewer hours of work a week). They either dropped out of school to get a job, or they went hungry. They didn’t have a choice.

I doubt any of you average 90 hours a week (talking real working hours – not BS meetings). You may pull it once and a while, but these ladies do it every week and without a complaint.

(Not meant to be an attack on Newt)
