New softball coach

Now the issue will be assistant coaches.
Assistant coaches are as important as the HC as they are the teachers. However, the difference is the assistants are on the HC's head. As we have seen, poor Assistants will eventually bring down the HC.

Someone on another message board wished us luck and said, "I hope it doesn't turn out to be a hire like Gail...."

Made me think.

:(

One could say that about any hire ever. Nothing is a sure thing, but there are indicators that things will translate to a new program. It's part of what's called repeatable excellence. Must have been an Okie saying that to you.

Need someone on staff with proven ability to recruit in Texas. Chelsea Spencer is not that person.
Agree, but since the HC pays the ultimate price for Assistant mistakes let him chose who he feels comfortable. Also, in this case, White basically blew off Texas HS softball so he values someone with national recruiting experience at this point. (For what it is worth, Charlie Strong started out with the same mindset, and we know how that ended.)

No Texas experienced coaches probably means recuiting will be slow until we win something.
The sky fell in on Texas' recruiting 5 years ago. All of you keep saying HS ball doesn't count so not having a staff without Texas ties shouldn't make a difference. It does probably mean a few more out of state and a few commitment changes.

Mike White said as part of his introduction about recruiting in Texas, something to the effect of (sorry, I can't dig out the line verbatim): "Well, I need to get to know the Texas clubs ASAP, obviously." When the followup question was about high school teams, he said (paraphrase), "Yeah, if it warrants, we'll look into that as well."

I know that my daughter's high school softball team is....extremely amaturish....so the cream must be in the softball club circuit.

Theres always a good player or two on every HS team, but why bother with that when the other nine months a year college coaches can go to one elite level select tourney and find all the talent they need to chase. Its very efficient and effective.

Theres a tournament in Boulder, CO every year where every starter on every team in the gold level 18U tourney will probably go D1 every year. PGF National Championships.....Triple Crown National Championships.......talent oozes in those places. Smaller schools have to scour the HS ranks for undeveloped or high potential talent

Saw online (maybe this is old) that our volunteer grad assistant is former Duck Kailee Cuico. Seems like a good person to help our hitters!
